Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) of 22mm is quite large and usually requires surgical closure or device closure as per modern medicine. In Ayurveda, we focus on strengthening the heart muscles, improving circulation, and reducing symptoms but cannot close such a large defect naturally. However, if your son has mild symptoms and doctors agree to monitor the condition, Ayurveda may help support heart function and delay complications.

Please share if he has shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in legs, frequent lung infections, or palpitations. Has an echocardiogram been done recently? Also, is he on any medications?

Has he experienced any symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, or heart palpitations? Additionally, is he currently on any medications or undergoing any treatments for his heart condition? It would also help to know about his lifestyle, diet, and any other existing health conditions.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, heart conditions like ASD can be linked to imbalances in Vata and Pitta doshas. Ayurveda focuses on improving overall heart health, strengthening the heart muscles, and balancing the circulatory system. While ASD may require medical intervention, Ayurveda can complement conventional treatments and support general well-being.

Arjuna is one of the best herbs in Ayurveda for heart health. It strengthens the heart muscles, improves circulation, and helps in maintaining a balanced blood pressure. Brahmi helps reduce stress and improve cognitive function, which could be beneficial for managing anxiety related to heart issues. Ashwagandha can support overall vitality and energy levels while reducing stress. Additionally, Gokshura may help in improving circulation and supporting cardiovascular health.

Maintaining a heart-healthy diet with foods that support circulation and reduce inflammation, such as fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and nuts, is important. Avoiding heavy, greasy, and processed foods will also be beneficial.

Dealing with an atrial septal defect (ASD), especially one that’s 22mm, is a bit tricky when it comes to non-surgical options. Ayurveda is an amazing science, but it doesn’t really “close” structural heart issues like ASD. The main goal would be to support the heart’s health and overall wellbeing.

First thing, consulting with a cardiologist should be priority, since they can better assess the urgency and potential need for surgical options. Sometimes large ASDs can cause complications, and medical opinion is super important.

In Ayurveda, supporting cardiac health naturally includes some lifestyle and dietary adjustments. Encourage your son to incorporate activities that help manage stress, like meditation or easy pranayama (control of breath) techniques. This can help the body remain balanced and calm.

Diet-wise, heart-friendly foods are beneficial. He can focus on eating a nourishing sattvic diet, rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Incorporate foods like garlic and turmeric, which are believed to support cardiovascular health. Ashwagandha and Arjuna are traditional herbs known for heart health, but be cautious and definitely check with a knowledgeable practitioner before starting.

Remember to avoid factors like excessive oily or fried foods and refined sugars that can strain the heart over time. Maintaining a healthy weight and engaging in light to moderate exercise as comfortable can help a lot.

The underlying approach from Ayurveda would be balancing his doshas and improving digestive fire, or agni. But let’s be real here – an ASD of this size might truly require surgical consultation. Always weigh options with your doctor, cause some situations just need modern intervention, and that’s okay.

Hope this sheds a bit of light – prioritizing safety and well-being is key here!
