You're dealing with a stubborn case of acne, and it's understandable you’re miffed about it. From an Ayurvedic perspective, acne often involves an imbalance in the doshas, particularly Pitta—linked to heat and inflammation in the body. Given your symptoms and the lack of success with conventional treatments, diving into Ayurveda could offer a new path. Firstly, diet plays a huge role in managing Pitta. Consider incorporating cooling foods like cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. Reduce hot, spicy, and oily foods and instead focus on whole grains such as barley and rice. Keeping hydrated is crucial, so aim for at least 2 liters of water daily, maybe add a splash of rosewater for added cooling effect. In terms of external care, you might want to start with a more gentle, natural cleanser. A paste of sandalwood and turmeric mixed with rose water can be soothing and has antibacterial properties. Apply it, leave for 15 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. This could be done once daily. For internal cleansing, an herbal formulation like Triphala can help detoxify and balance your Pitta dosha. Take about 500 mg – 1 gram of Triphala powder with warm water before bed. It's a mild digestive and will aid in detoxification without causing any harsh effects. Moreover, try to manage stress through gentle yoga and breathing practices like Anulom Vilom which can bring harmony to your doshas. Stress could be a hidden trigger keeping those breakouts coming. While azelaic acid might work for some, your skin may respond better to more natural treatments. Since hyperpigmentation is also a concern, saffron milk (drink and apply as paste) can act as a natural toner and brighten skin—though it'll take time. It's important to consider personal tolerances and any allergies, and consulting with a specialized Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized assessment would be wise. If you notice any sever adverse reactions or worsening, it might be urgent to consult a health professional. Consistency with these changes, along with patience, is key. Your skin’s response may not be overnight, but aligning your lifestyle to your constitution can lead to profound improvements in the long run.
