It seems you're dealing with intermittant insomnia which can be challenging. Ayurveda looks at insomnia or "Nidra Nash" as often linked with an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which represents air and space and is responsible for movement and flow in the body. When Vata is disturbed, it can manifest as anxiety, restlessness and trouble sleeping. Here’s a way to address this naturally without heavy reliance on medications like Rivotril. Firstly, incorporate a consistent sleep schedule. Going to bed and waking up at the same time can help balance your body's biological clock. Try incorporating a bedtime routine which signals your mind and body that it's time to wind down. Consider warm herbal teas, chamomile or ashwagandha tea are known for calming the mind. Even a warm glass of milk with a pinch of nutmeg and a dash of turmeric can provide a soothing effect. Explore Abhyanga or self-massage using warmed sesame oil. Start with the scalp, moving to your temples in clockwise motion, and then massage the whole body in direction toward the heart. It not only helps calm Vata but nourishes the dhatus and aids relaxation. Diet can also play a role; aim for Vata-pacifying foods which are warm, cooked and easy to digest. Avoid raw foods, cold foods or drinks, caffeine, and spicy items, especially late at night. Dinner should be light and taken at least three hours before bed. Meditation or mindful breathing exercises can reduce stress – even just 10 minutes daily can make a difference. Anulom Vilom Pranayama (alternate nostril breathing) can help cool the nervous system and promote balance. Keep your surroundings conducive for sleep – a dark, cool, and quiet environment matters. Electronic devices can disrupt sleep patterns, try keeping them away at least an hour before bed. Remember these are holistic practices and take time to integrate. Monitor your progress, notice improvements, and be patient with this journey. If sleep disturbances persist, consult a qualified ayurvedic practitioner for personalized guidance.
