How to stimulate/reactivate auditory ability - #31498

Lisa McClendon

My hearing went out after a high-pitched noise in my ear and Ilost my hearing in my right ear. My naprapath said I had a small case of toxciemia. I was given a series of colonics over a month period. I experienced my hearing coming in and out. I needed to stay away from heavy stars like pasta potatoes., etc.

In Ayurveda, hearing loss or impairment might be related to an imbalance in the Vata dosha, as this dosha governs all movement and communication in the body. High-pitched noises and stress can aggravate Vata, leading to disturbances in hearing. Given your experience with toxciemia and hearing fluctuation, here are some strategic recommendations that align with Ayurvedic wisdom.

First, maintaining a Vata-pacifying lifestyle can support auditory health. This means emphasizing warmth, stability, and regularity. Begin your day with a self-massage using warm sesame oil, which soothes Vata. Gently massage the oil over your ears and scalp area to promote circulation.

Diet plays a crucial role in balancing Vata. You should continue to avoid heavy and Vata-aggravating foods like pasta and potatoes, but focus more on warm, moist foods. Cooked grains like quinoa, millet, or rice paired with ghee can be beneficial. Include nourishing soups made with vegetables and spices like turmeric and cumin that aid digestion and balance Vata.

Practicing Pranayama, particularly the Bhramari breath—humming bee breath—can be soothing for the ears. Place your fingers on your ears’ outer flap, inhale deeply, and while exhalng, make a gentle humming sound. Do this for about 5-7 minutes, once or twice a day.

Incorporate Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwagandha and Shatavari to stabilize Vata dosha. These herbs can be taken as prescribed by an Ayurvedic practitioner. Consulting a skilled practitioner is beneficial as they will tailor their advice to your individual constitution and needs.

Also, consider a gentle nasal cleansing using a Neti pot with warm saline water. This can clear sinuses and relieve pressure that may affect ear function. Avoiding cold environments and protecting your ears from sharp noises or stress is essential in your recovery process.

Ensuring that your digestive fire, or agni, remains strong by eating on a regular schedule and avoiding raw foods will help minimize toxins. If your symptoms persist or if hearing loss intensifies, it’s important to see a medical professional to rule out any hearing-related conditions that require urgent attention. Your swift action can be the key to maintaining health.

It’s possible that the sudden loss of hearing you experience could be linked to an imbalance in the doshas, particularly vata. This dosha is responsible for movement and communication throughout the body, including hearing. The high-pitched noise you encountered might have aggravated the vata dosha, disrupting the normal function of the auditory pathways.

To help restore balance and potentially improve auditory function, some Siddha-Ayurvedic recommendations might be helpful:

1. Nasya Therapy: Administering warm sesame oil or Brahmi oil into the nostrils can help pacify vata and promote clear communication through the energey channels, nadis. Do this in the morning after cleansing your face.

2. Dietary Adjustments: Continue avoiding heavy or hard-to-digest foods like the suggested pasta and potatoes. Focus on moist, warming foods like soups and stews that include spices like ginger and turmeric that support digestive fire, or agni. These will help maintain equilibrium in your body systems.

3. Ear Oil Application: Applying a few drops of warm, medicated oil like Anu Taila or Shadbindu Taila into the ear twice daily can lubricate and rejuvenate the ear channels. This should be done very carefully, ensuring the oil is not too hot.

4. Avoiding Loud Noises: Minimize noise exposure to avoid further irritations of the auditory pathways until there’s some improvement.

5. Pranayama and Meditation: Engage in gentle meditation and breathing practices, which can calm the mind and reduce vata disturbances.

If you notice no improvement or worsening, consult a healthcare professional swiftly as sudden or fluctuating hearing loss can sometimes indicate a more severe underlying issue that may need urgent attention. Always combine Ayurvedic practices with conventional medical advice, especially in urgent health situations.
