The symptoms your mother is experiencing can be quite concerning and complex, especially when intertwined with her existing health issues like diabetes, thyroid imbalance, and high blood pressure. Losing significant weight, hair and experiencing brittle nails along with chest pain suggests her vata and pitta doshas may be aggravated. Addressing these imbalances holistically can help.

Firstly, given her age and symptoms like chest pain and hearing issues, it’s critical she sees a healthcare provider urgently to rule out any severe cardiovascular or other systemic concerns.

For managing her Ayurvedic needs, consider these adjustments. Diet-wise, she should focus on warm, nourishing, and slightly oily meals that pacify vata. Encourage her to consume grounding foods like cooked sweet potatoes, carrots, and beets. Spices like cumin, fennel, and fenugreek, when added to meals, can support her digestion. Warm soups or porridge with ghee might also help stabilize her digestive system. Sugary foods, and highly processed items should be avoided considering her diabetes.

For her thyroid and hair loss, foods rich in iodine like seaweed (if this is part of her diet and culturally appropriate) can be supportive, but consult her doctor first due to her thyroid condition. Include soaked almonds and walnuts in her diet to nourish her scalp and promote hair health.

Her routine should be calm and relaxing to keep stress at bay. Practices such as Abhyanga (oil massage) using sesame or almond oil can nourish her body tissues and balance vata. Regular gentle exercise or yoga focusing on calming poses and stretches can help, but avoid over-exertion due to her fatigue.

Finally, ensure regular sleep cycles, encouraging her to go to bed early and rise early, as irregular sleep can disturb vata balance. Include pranayama practices like Anulom-Vilom to promote calmness and improve her lung capacity. While these suggestions are beneficial, they act as complementary measures, and she should continue any prescribed medications and regular checkups with her healthcare providers.

Given the complex health issues your mother is experiencing, it’s essential to tackle this from a balanced and integrated perspective. Her symptoms—weight loss, hair loss, brittle nails, and uneven teeth, coupled with potential heart-related symptoms like chest pain—suggest a deeper imbalance within her doshas, particularly affecting her vata and possibly her agni, or metabolic fire.

First, the combination of diabetes and thyroid problems needs careful monitoring. Ayurvedic practices can support her overall well-being, but ongoing supervision by a medical professional to address these conditions is crucial, especially with recent weight loss, as it might indicate an underlying issue requiring immediate attention.

For vata imbalance, which might underlie many of these symptoms, consider incorporating warm, nourishing foods into her diet, like soups and stews, which can help stabilize vata energy. Encourage her to consume healthy fats such as ghee or olive oil, which are also beneficial for skin and hair health. Avoid dry and cold foods that can exacerbate vata disturbance.

Digestive issues can often be linked to weak agni. A simple tea made from cumin, coriander, and fennel seeds can be taken 2-3 times a day to help improve digestion and directly support agni. To make the tea, boil equal parts of each spice in water for about 5-10 minutes, then strain the liquid before drinking.

The reports of chest pain and hearing issues are concerning. It’s recommended she consult a healthcare provider to rule out any serious cardiovascular or auditory concerns, which shouldn’t be delayed. These symptoms could be urgent, and ayurvedic support should complement their medical advice, not replace it.

Her brittle nails and hair loss indicate possible nutrient deficiency or absorption issues, perhaps tied to her metabolic disturbances. Regular consumption of chyawanprash, a traditional Ayurvedic supplement rich in vitamin C and other essential nutrients, can be beneficial. Have her take it once daily in the morning with warm milk, adjusting the amount based on her digestion.

Regular light exercise, such as walking or yoga tailored to her capacity, can enhance circulation and support overall health. Mindful practices like pranayama (breathing exercises) can help balance energies and reduce stress, as stress often exacerbates symptoms of high blood pressure and thyroid conditions. Prioritize these suggestions in conjunction with guidance from her primary medical provider for comprehensive care.
