Angioedema is a condition that often arises due to allergic reactions, and in your case, it seems there’s a sensitivity to the vitamin C serum. The swelling and redness, particularly around the eyes and lips, can be alarming. Here’s how you’d approach managing this from a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective.
First, stop using the vitamin C serum immediately, as it appears to be a trigger. To address the swelling and reduce Pitta (heat) that may be causing this reaction, apply a paste of sandalwood and rose water. This mixture has natural cooling and anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe irritated skin. Apply it gently over the affected areas twice daily until symptoms subside.
Consuming internally-calming ingredients like Amla (Indian gooseberry), which is renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties, can be beneficial. You might drink Amla juice once daily or incorporate Amla in a powdered form in warm water in the morning to help balance excessive Pitta.
It’s also important to keep your diet light and cooling. Avoid spicy foods, sour fruits, and fermented products. Instead, focus on consuming foods like cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens that pacify Pitta. Drinking plenty of water infused with mint or coriander seeds can also help to cool and detoxify the system.
Consider doing gentle breathing exercises (pranayama) like Sheetali Pranayama (cooling breath) twice daily. These practices can calm the nervous system and reduce stress, which might exacerbate your symptoms.
However, due to the severity of angioedema, if the swelling continues to worsen or affects your breathing or throat, seek immediate medical attention. Angioedema can sometimes escalate quickly and require emergency care, so it’s vital to be vigilant and prioritise safety.
