how to get rid of blackness around mouth - #37125

Mia

I am really struggling with this dark discoloration around my mouth. I noticed it started a few months ago, and now it just feels like it’s getting worse. Like, some days it looks even more pronounced, especially after eating or drinking, and I can't help but feel self-conscious about it. I’ve tried some store-bought creams and even homemade remedies but none seem to work. I want to know how to get rid of blackness around mouth naturally because I’ve read that harsh chemicals can make it even worse. I did some research and it mentioned things like turmeric or aloe vera, but I'm not really sure how to use them properly. My diet isn’t too bad, I eat my veggies and stuff, but sometimes I indulge in spicy foods or chocolates, which I’ve heard can contribute to skin issues -- should I cut back or does it matter?? Also, like, what about hydration? I don’t drink as much water as I should, I will admit. Could that be impacting it too? Just feeling kinda lost, wondering if anyone here knows how to get rid of blackness around mouth, or if there are any lifestyle changes I should consider? I could really use some advice!

Dark discoloration around the mouth can often be attributed to various factors that Ayurveda interprets through the lens of doshas, namely Kapha and Pitta imbalances. Let’s tackle this step by step.

First, using natural ingredients like turmeric and aloe vera can be highly beneficial. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and can help in lightening the skin. Make a paste using a pinch of turmeric powder with a teaspoon of honey, and apply it to the affected area for about 10 minutes daily, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Aloe vera can also soothe and hydrate your skin. Apply fresh aloe vera gel to the area, leave it on for about 15 minutes, and then rinse. Do this twice a day.

Now, regarding diet, you’re right; what you eat can impact skin health. Try to moderate the intake of spicy foods and chocolates, as they can exacerbate Pitta, potentially contributing to skin discoloration. Balance your diet with more cooling foods like cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens.

Hydration plays a crucial role too. Dehydrated skin can look dull and highlight discoloration. Aim to drink at least 8 cups of water a day or more if you feel thirsty. Add hydrating herbal teas like chamomile or mint to your routine; these can be soothing and replenishing.

In terms of lifestyle, consider incorporating daily oil massage (Abhyanga) using coconut or sesame oil. It boosts circulation and can significantly improve skin tone.

Ensure adequate rest and manage stress through yoga and meditation, as stress can also lead you to physiological changes.

Lastly, regular exfoliation using a gentle natural scrub can help in removing dead skin cells. You can create a scrub using chickpea flour (besan) and a bit of milk, applying it gently on your face once a week.

If you observe no improvement over time or have additional concerns, it’s advisable to seek an Ayurvedic practitioner for a more personalized assessment. Balancing your lifestyle and diet with the right care regimen can progressively help in dealing with this concern effectively.

Darkness around the mouth can often be attributed to multiple factors, potentially including diet, hydration, and the body’s natural balance of doshas. From an Ayurvedic standpoint, it’s important to consider whether this might be indicating a deeper imbalance in your doshas or other metabolic aspects. It sounds like it could be a result of Pitta imbalance, especially if you notice it worsening after spicy foods or exposure to heat.

First, let’s look at a few lifestyle adjustments. Consider reducing your intake of spicy and oily foods, as Pitta imbalance often gets aggravated by such dietary choices. Instead, favor cooling and hydrating foods, which might include cucumbers, green leafy vegetables, and coconut water. Hydration is also key, so make it a priority to drink more water throughout the day to support proper skin and systemic functions. At least 8-10 glasses, adjusting for your climate and lifestyle, might benefit.

For topical use, you mentioned turmeric and aloe vera, both of which are excellent choices. To use turmeric, mix a small amount with milk or yogurt to create a paste and apply it gently around the mouth. Leave it on for about 10 minutes before rinsing off. This can help due its naturally anti-inflammatory properties. Aloe vera can be applied directly; break open a fresh leaf if possible or use natural, unscented aloe gel. Its soothing nature helps calm aggravated skin and can lighten discoloration over time.

An herbal oil recommended in Siddha-Ayurveda is Kumkumadi Tailam. It is used in night application and massage to promote glowing skin and counter discoloration. Be mindful to do a patch test first, ensuring you don’t have a adverse reaction. Finally, include a skincare routine emphasizing gentle, natural ingredients—avoid harsh chemical-laden products, as they can exacerbate the issue.

If the problem persists or is worsening even with these changes, consider consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner or dermatologist. They can provide more personalized guidance, ensuring there’s no underlying issue that may need more attention.
