In dealing with allergic rhinitis and asthma from an Ayurvedic perspective, it’s essential to address the root cause which often involves balancing the involved doshas, particularly Vata and Kapha. A significant focus is on strengthening your respiratory system and improving immunity. Implementing a few key lifestyle and dietary changes can significantly assist in managing your symptoms.

Starting with the diet, favor foods that are warm, easy to digest, and light. Avoid cold, dairy-heavy, and oily foods as these can aggravate Kapha. Include spices like ginger and black pepper in your meals; these can help reduce Kapha accumulation. Use lukewarm water for drinking; ideally, keep it handy throughout the day to assist with digestion and clearing mucus from the respiratory tract.

Ayurvedic herbs like Tulsi (holy basil), Pippali, and Yashtimadhu are known for their beneficial impact on respiratory health. Tulsi tea can be consumed regularly to help manage symptoms. Consider Trikatu churna—comprising black pepper, long pepper, and ginger—it may support respiratory and digestive health and should be taken under a practitioner’s guidance.

Nasya therapy, which involves applying medicated oils or powders into the nostrils, could help alleviate nasal blockages and clear passages. Anu Taila is often recommended for such conditions. Use this therapy in the morning on an empty stomach, and ensure you are seated comfortably during the process.

Daily, engage in gentle exercises and breathing exercises like Pranayama, focusing on techniques such as Anulom Vilom and Kapalabhati to enhance lung capacity and reduce stress. Ensure you maintain a regular sleep schedule, as poor sleep can further aggravate symptoms.

If symptoms are severe or cause difficulty when breathing, consider consulting with a healthcare professional. Combined approaches that include both Ayurvedic and conventional medical care may provide comprehensive relief. Keep in mind, regular check-ups are vital and adhering to recommended plans might enhance the health outcome.
