can we drink sugarcane juice during fever - #37675

Elijah

I am feeling really under the weather these days, and it’s got me thinking about what I eat and drink. I’ve had this fever that won’t let up, and the whole thing is just draining the life out of me. I used to love drinking sugarcane juice during the summer—not just for its sweetness, but I thought it felt refreshing! But now I’m wondering, can we drink sugarcane juice during fever? Like, I read somewhere that it can be cooling and good for hydration, but then I also saw something that said sweet things might not be the best idea when you're sick? I've had headaches and my body feels like it’s on fire—so many conflicting pieces of advice out there! I’m just worried that drinking sugarcane juice could make things worse, or maybe it could actually help me feel better? I’ve been trying to stay hydrated, but plain water just doesn’t cut it. If sugarcane juice is okay, how much should I even have? Or should I pair it with something else? Really don’t wanna mess this up—fever is no fun, ugh! Any personal experiences or insights would be super helpful!

Drinking sugarcane juice during a fever can be beneficial if approached with understanding of your current condition and constitution, as per Ayurvedic principles. Sugarcane juice is naturally cooling and can help in reducing fever, especially if you experience excessive heat. It is known to hydrate the body and provide a quick energy boost due to its natural sugars and electrolytes. However, its appropriatenes also depends on your dosha balance and prakriti (constitution).

In Ayurveda, different types of fevers can be linked to aggravation of Pitta dosha, often causing heat and inflammation. Since sugarcane juice is cooling, it might ease these symptoms—like your comparable to body burning sensation, it could provide relief.

But there’s a catch. If your fever is accompanied by symptoms like excessive mucus or congestion (indicative of Kapha imbalances), sweet juices could potentially exacerbate the condition, as sugars might thicken the mucus. So, observing your symptoms like cough, congestion, is crucial. If not excessive, drinking sugarcane juice seems reasonable.

About quantity, moderation is key—consider half a glass (about 100-150 ml) at a time. That should be hydrating without overloading your digestive system. Sipping it once or twice a day ideally in the first half rather than evening can fit within a balanced routine. Ensure the juice is fresh and free from additives or artificial sweeteners, which could be harsh for digestion.

Moreover, if the juice’s sweetness feels unbalanced, a pinch of ginger or tulsi can be added, known in Ayurveda for its anti-inflammatory properties. Avoiding sugarcane juice if digestion is weak is wise; if you feel bloating or heaviness, consume alternatives like lukewarm water with a splash of lemon or honey, offering gentle detoxification without excessive sweetness.

In short, sugarcane juice in moderation, observing how your body responds, ensures you’re supporting your body rather than overwhelming it. Drink mindfully, and monitor if symptoms subside or persist. If fever, headaches or body temperature high escalate, seek medical advice to rule out anything more serious. Your body knows the best—listen closely.
