how to make strong hair - #37839

Riley

I am really struggling with my hair lately! It's been falling out a lot, like more than usual, and I've noticed it feels kinda dry and brittle. I used to have strong hair, but now it feels like I’m losing it bit by bit. I tried some shampoos and eat healthy, or at least I think I do...lots of fruits and veggies, you know? But still no improvement. A friend mentioned something about Ayurveda but I don’t know much about that. Like how to make strong hair naturally? Is there some secret herb or recipe? I read about aloe vera but do I just put it on my scalp, or is there more to it? And what about amla, I heard that’s good too? I’ve also been stressed lately, work is crazy and I’d love to see some changes in my hair soon, like super quick! I don’t wanna go bald or anything, and honestly, it’s so frustrating. Any tips or home remedies on how to make strong hair that you guys swear by? Hope I’m not asking for too much here!! Thanks a ton in advance.

To strengthen your hair naturally through Ayurveda, start by addressing possible causes of hair fall. Stress is a significant factor, so incorporating stress-reducing techniques such as meditation or yoga could be beneficial.

Including Ayurvedic herbs known for their hair-strengthening properties is a great idea. Amla (Indian gooseberry) is renowned in Ayurveda for nourishing the hair. You can use amla in both your diet and in topical applications. Eating fresh amla or taking amla powder with warm water can provide essential nutrients like vitamin C that promote hair health. For topical use, create a hair mask by mixing amla powder with water or yogurt and apply to your scalp once a week, leaving it on for 30 minutes before rinsing. Amla oil is another option — massage gently into the scalp to improve blood circulation and promote growth.

Aloe vera is also an effective treatment. Use the freshly extracted gel from the aloe plant and apply directly to your scalp and hair, leave on for about 20 minutes before washing. Aloe vera not only conditions but balances the scalp’s pH level, encouraging healthier growth.

Incorporate a balanced diet rich in proteins, healthy fats, and iron. Foods like nuts, seeds, leafy greens, and legumes are helpful. Since you’ve already mentioned eating fruits and veggies, try including more dishes with sesame seeds and flaxseeds, which are excellent for strengthening hair.

Nourishing hair oil massages can help too. Try using coconut or sesame oil with a few drops of rosemary essential oil for rejuvenating your scalp. Massage in circular motions twice a week for positive effects.

Immediate changes might be unrealistic because hair growth cycles take time, but consistency in these practices will gradually show results. Ensure you’re hydrated and pay attention to your body’s nutritional needs. Avoid heating tools and styling products that harm your hair over time, simplifying the hair care routine could help prevent further damage.

Ayurveda describes hair health as deeply connected to our overall balance, or ‘doshas’ - particularly with Pitta and Vata. Your symptoms, like hair fall and brittleness, might indicate an imbalance in these doshas, maybe exacerbated by stress and lifestyle factors. Here are a few steps rooted in Ayurvedic philosophy to help you regain strong hair:

1. Amla and Aloe Vera: Amla, or Indian gooseberry, is nourishing and rejuvenating. You can use it in powdered form to make a hair mask. Mix 2 teaspoons of amla powder with some warm water to make a paste, and apply it to your scalp, leaving it for about 20 minutes before washing it off. Aloe vera can indeed be applied directly to your scalp; it helps soothe and hydrate, which might support hair strength. Use fresh aloe vera gel, massaging it into the scalp, and rinsing off after 30 minutes.

2. Diet and Stress Management: Stick to a warm, nourishing diet. Include healthy fats like ghee or sesame oil. They can support Vata, which in excess, could contribute to hair brittleness. Stress is a significant Pitta aggravator, so incorporating meditation or yoga might really help balance you out.

3. Oil Massage: Regularly massaging your scalp with warm sesame or coconut oil can strengthen roots and increase circulation. This practice, known as ‘abhyanga’, can be done once or twice weekly. Warm the oil gently and massage slowly in circular motions to penetrate the scalp.

4. Herbal Supplements and Teas: Consider introducing herbs like Brahmi and Ashwagandha, which support stress management and have rejuvenating properties. Brahmi powder can be mixed with water as a paste for the scalp or taken as a supplement; similarly, ashwagandha can be taken in capsule form or a tea.

If home remedies do not lead to improvement, it might be worth consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner to ascertain more specifics regarding your ‘prakriti’, particularly if there’s an underlying imbalance contributing to hair health. Working holistically will often yield more enduring results and hair vitality. Additionally, keep an eye on your stress, as mental state and physical health are deeply interlinked in Ayurveda, along with consulting a doctor if hair loss remains severe.
