For managing chronic constipation linked to liver heat in Ayurveda, it’s important to address both the liver heat and the constipation simultaneously. Ayurveda recognizes the liver as central to the body’s digestive processes, governed in large part by the Pitta dosha. Excess heat in the liver can indeed dry the stool, causing constipation. Here are some Ayurvedic approaches you can consider:

Firstly, dietary adjustments are crucial. Focus on a Pitta-pacifying diet, which includes cooling, hydrating foods. Incorporate more leafy vegetables, cucumbers, zucchini, and gourds. Avoid spicy, oily, and fried foods, as well as caffeinated drinks which can increase Pitta. Drink coconut water and buttermilk to help cool the body and keep hydrated.

Herbs like Shatavari and Guduchi are beneficial as they balance Pitta. A safe approach to start is to add a teaspoon of Triphala churna in warm water at night before bed. Triphala is a gentle, natural laxative and also helps detoxify the liver. Make sure to monitor how your body responds, adjusting the quantity if necessary.

Regular consumption of aloe vera juice, around 30 ml in the morning on an empty stomach, can also help in reducing the liver’s heat and enhancing bowel movements. Keep an eye on its impact, as it may cause diarrhea in some individuals.

Avoid late-night meals, eat at regular times, and chew your food thoroughly to help support your digestion. Practicing yoga or light exercises every day like Sarvangasana and Halasana can aid digestion and help reduce stress on your liver.

It’s essential to stay hydrated, so aim for 8-10 glasses of lukewarm water daily. This will help soften stools and promote regular bowel movements.

If symptoms persist or worsen, consider consulting a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare provider for tailored advice, as self-management should not delay important medical evaluations, especially if there is any ongoing pain or significant discomfort.
