how to stop your height - #38705

I am really worried about my height. I used to think I’d be fine with how tall I am, but ever since I turned 17, my friends keep joking about it and it kinda gets to me. They all are taller, and suddenly I just feel small. I read some stuff online about how to stop your height from increasing, especially since some of my family members are on the shorter side, like my mom and dad. Like, do you think my height is going to keep increasing? I’m currently around 5'3", and even tho it’s normal or whatever, I just don’t wanna be shorter than I already am. The growth plates or whatever are supposed to close soon, right? And I’m honestly scared that if I’m still growing, I could end up way taller which I don't want. Is there any natural way for how to stop your height from increasing like seriously? I've heard about certain diets or exercises that could work, but I’m not sure what to trust. Also, I’ve been thinking maybe if I just wear heavy shoes or something… would that help? Just feels so confusing, and I guess I'm just hoping someone has dealt with this and can help me figure out how to stop your height issue because I don’t want to be teased anymore. Please share your thoughts!

At 17, it’s common to be concerned about height, especially when peers and personal expectations come into play. In terms of height increase, it’s largely governed by genetic factors and the closure of growth plates, also known as epiphyseal plates, at the ends of long bones. For most individuals, these plates tend to close between the ages of 18-21, so if you’re close to 18, it’s conceivable that your height will stabilize soon.

Ayurveda primarily focuses on enhancing natural growth rather than inhibiting it. However, your concern about unwanted height increase can be addressed by understanding Kapha dosha. Kapha, when elevated, relates to strength and body growth. To encourage a balanced Kapha, you could look at maintaining regularity in certain areas of lifestyle and diet, without drastic change.

Dietary-wise, favoring foods that are more bitter, pungent, and astringent can help balance Kapha. This includes leafy greens, legumes like lentils, and spicy herbs like black pepper and turmeric. Try eating in a calm, mindful environment to support proper digestion.

In terms of exercise, engaging in grounding exercises such as yoga focusing on poses that are more rooted, like Tadasana (Mountain Pose), can support a sense of stability within your height journey. However, exercise alone won’t drastically alter your genetic height trajectory.

Wearing heavy shoes is unlikely to impact your natural growth process, it’s more of a distraction than a solution. If your height is still causing anxiety and social distress, addressing this concern with supportive conversations is vital. Building confidence through understanding your own natural body rhythm is also beneficial.

Ultimately, always consult with a healthcare provider if you have concerns about growth or any changes in your physical development that don’t seem typical—sometimes reassurance from a professional can be very settling. Understanding that every individual has a unique path in their physical form can empower you to embrace where you are.

Your concern about your height is understandable, especially if you feel it impacts you socially. However, there’s little evidence that suggests any natural or Ayurvedic methods to specifically stop height from increasing. Typically, growth in height occurs until the growth plates in your long bones fuse, which usually happens by late teens in males and earlier in females. Since you’re 17, it’s possible you’re close to this phase.

In the Siddha-Ayurvedic approach, height is generally considered part of your prakriti (constitution) and balances of dosha, which isn’t something easily altered. Yet you can focus on maintaining overall health and wellness:

1. Ensure balanced nutrition: Proper alimentation is essential for bone health, focus on fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy to support your body’s natural growth processes without pushing it faster.

2. Pay attention to exercise: Moderate physical activities like swimming or yoga can keep you fit and enhance overall posture, giving more comfort in your current height rather than stunting it.

3. Calm vata dosha imbalances: Practices like deep breathing, meditation, and using warming spices like ginger can stabilize vata, which often relates to anxiety or fluctuations in growth.

4. Sleeping well: Sleep is crucial in maintaining hormonal levels that inadvertently decide growth factors; while it won’t stop growth, it balances the body’s needs correctly.

About wearing heavy shoes or such methods, there’s no sound proof that they influence your height long-term—they might provide some mental comfort temporarily but won’t change your growth patterns practically.

If this worry continues to be a source of anxiety, it could help to discuss feelings with a physician or counselor who understands body image issues. Consulting with healthcare professionals, perhaps an endocrinologist, can also confirm if you’re near the end of your growth phase. They can provide a clearer picture and help dispel any myths or unnecessary fears.
