Acne and its marks can be quite persistent, especially if they’re present on your face, back, and hands for over six months. From an Ayurvedic perspective, acne is often linked with an imbalance in your doshas, especially Pitta and Kapha. This imbalance can manifest due to improper diet, lifestyle habits or stress levels which might be affecting your skin.

Firstly, dietary adjustments play a crucial role. Try to reduce oily, spicy, and fermented foods as they can increase Pitta dosha. Instead, incorporate more cooling foods like cucumbers, cilantro, and sweet fruits (like pears or apples) into your diet. Drinking amla juice or taking triphala at night might help detoxify your system and correct internal imbalances responsible for maintaining clear skin.

Make sure to keep your digestion fire, or “agni,” strong. Weak digestion may lead to toxins (ama) accumulation contributing to skin problems. To stimulate agni, you might consume a few slices of ginger with a pinch of salt before meals.

Topically, applying a paste of sandalwood or turmeric mixed with rose water can help with reducing inflammation and marks. Leave the paste on the affected areas for about 15-20 minutes before gently washing off with lukewarm water.

In terms of lifestyle, regular exercise or yoga can help balance dosha levels, but ensure not to overheat your body during these activities, as excessive heat might aggravate Pitta. And most importantly, maintain a consistent sleep routine, with an aim to sleep early and rise early to promote balance within the body and mind.

Lastly, if the condition doesn’t improve or worsens, it would be wise to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner who can provide a more detailed evaluation and individualized treatment plan for your specific constitution and needs.
