Doctors' responses

Using ghee drops for a cold and nasal swelling can be beneficial, as ghee is known for its soothing and lubricating properties according to Ayurveda. However, there’s some considerations you need to take into account before proceeding. Given your son’s symptoms of swelling and a pimple with pus, it is important to be cautious. While ghee can help to soothe irritation and provide moisture, the presence of pus suggests an underlying infection that may require specific attention.

You can use ghee drops for your son if there is no active infection or severe symptoms. Warm the ghee gently until it’s liquid and slightly warm (not hot). Place a few drops into each nostril, preferably in the morning or before bedtime. This can help to moisturize the nasal passages and may reduce some inflammation. It’s important not to rely solely on ghee if the symptoms worsen.

For the pimple with pus, it might be beneficial to consult with a pediatrician as it could indicate an bacterial infection that might require additional medical treatment. Persistent or severe infections might need antibiotics or professional medical care.

In addition to using ghee, ensure your son stays hydrated, consumes warm liquids like herbal teas, and eats a light, nourishing diet that can support his immune system. Ensure he avoids cold foods or drinks, which might exacerbate symptoms.

If symptoms persists or worsen, consider seeking medical attention to rule out any serious infections. In Ayurveda, a holistic approach involves assessing the prakriti and dosha balance, so monitoring diet and lifestyle alongside these natural remedies is often effective. Balancing the doshas can be through appropriate food, hydration, and rest, which is pivotal during recovery.
