Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.
I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.
Your sinus and sleep issues are often linked to an imbalance in Vata dosha. Vata governs movement and flow in the body, and when it’s out of balance, it can lead to dryness and irregularity in bodily functions. This can manifest as sinus congestion, which is a sign of dryness and obstruction, and sleep disturbances, which are also linked to Vata’s irregular and restless nature.
Sesame oil is known for its grounding and nourishing qualities, making it ideal for pacifying Vata. Applying it nasally (a practice known as Nasya) can help lubricate the nasal passages, reduce dryness, and support better breathing, which in turn can improve sleep quality.
Ayurveda views these symptoms as interconnected, arising from a systemic imbalance rather than isolated issues. Addressing Vata through both local application and lifestyle adjustments can provide holistic relief.

Is it safe to use sesame oil in the nose daily for sinus & sleep issues? Yes, this practice is known in Ayurveda as Nasya, and when done correctly, it can be very beneficial for both chronic sinus issues and disturbed sleep. However, the key lies in how and how much you use. ✔ Daily use — is it allowed? Yes — but only in a mild daily form (Pratimarsha Nasya): Dose: 2 drops in each nostril Frequency: Can be used daily, even long-term This helps in balancing Vata dosha, which is often responsible for dryness, disturbed sleep, and nervous system instability Heavy-dose Nasya should not be done daily without medical supervision. ✔ How to use it correctly (very important) Take pure sesame oil (slightly lukewarm) Lie down comfortably with head tilted back Put 2 drops in each nostril Gently inhale (do not sniff forcefully) Stay relaxed for 1–2 minutes Lightly massage forehead and nose area 👉 This simple routine: Lubricates nasal passages Reduces sinus dryness and irritation Calms the mind → improves sleep quality ✔ Which oil should you use? You can choose based on your condition: Plain sesame oil (Til Tail): Use only if it is pure, cold-pressed, and chemical-free Anu Tail (classical Ayurvedic oil): Better choice for chronic sinus issues Contains multiple herbs that act deeper on head region Medicated Nasya oils (for sleep/anxiety): Useful if sleep disturbance is a major concern 👉 In your case (sinus + light sleep), Anu Tail or medicated Nasya oil will give better results than plain sesame oil ⚠ Important precautions Avoid Nasya if: Cold, cough, or active sinus infection is present Nose is completely blocked Immediately after meals Fever or acute illness Also: Always start with low dose (1–2 drops) Do not overuse Stop if irritation occurs ✔ Practical routine for best results Morning: Anu Tail (2 drops) → for sinus health Night: Sesame oil or calming Nasya oil → for better sleep Final words This is a simple but powerful Ayurvedic therapy. When done regularly and correctly, it not only improves sinus health but also brings calmness to the mind and better sleep over time. Consistency is the key — results are gradual but long-lasting. If symptoms persist, a personalized Ayurvedic evaluation is always recommended. can take personlise consultation with me too .
