Doctors' responses

Considering your symptoms with recurring salivary gland infections, it’s important to take a clearly defined approach both in Ayurvedic and in urgent medical contexts. Due to the severity of your symptoms, including difficulty in eating, drinking, speaking, and breathing, it is essential that you consult a healthcare professional immediately to rule out any serious complications or infections that might be beyond the scope of home treatments.

For management through Ayurveda, after seeking immediate medical attention, focusing on reducing any Kapha and Pitta imbalance could be beneficial. Salivary gland issues can often be related to ama (toxins) and excess Kapha, leading to blockages and inflammation. Incorporating some dietary and lifestyle changes can assist in managing this condition holistically.

Start by introducing warm, light, and easily digestible foods in your diet to enhance your agni (digestive fire). Avoid anything too oily, creamy or dairy-based, as these can aggravate Kapha. Spices such as ginger, turmeric, and black pepper can help in reducing inflammation and clearing blockages.

Hydration is essential, but make sure to sip warm or room-temperature water. Avoid cold drinks as they might exacerbate Kapha and congestion. Taking warm water with little lemon and honey once daily can also help as a cleansing tonic if your condition allows it.

Perform gentle jaw exercises, but only if tolerated, and consider warm compresses on the affected area to aid circulation and provide relief. Ayurvedic oil pulling with coconut oil in the morning might help keep oral bacteria in check but proceed only if there’s no discomfort.

Also, an formulation like ‘Triphala’ can assist in detoxifying the digestive system, further preventing recurrence by cleansing the body’s channels. Nonetheless, prioritize immediate professional medical intervention for this severe recurrence before proceeding with any non-conventional treatments.

Recurrent salivary gland infections may indicate underlying imbalances or blockages that need attention. In Siddha-Ayurvedic practice, repetitive gland infections are often associated with kapha dosha imbalances, which can result in mucus buildup and stagnation. You should consider addressing this by improving lymphatic flow and reducing inflammation.

Start with warm herbal gargles. Take turmeric and salt in warm water and gargle gently 3-4 times a day. Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties could help alleviate this pain. Additionally, try a paste made from ginger powder and honey to apply externally on the affected area. Ginger has warming properties that may help to balance kapha and improve circulation.

Addressing your diet is crucial. Avoid cold, oily, and heavy foods that can increase kapha. Instead, have warm, light meals with astringent and bitter tastes like fenugreek and neem, which might help reduce inflammation. Drinking warm water throughout the day can also assist in keeping mucus thin and promote easy flow.

However, the severity of your symptoms suggests you should have this reviewed by a medical professional promptly to ensure there’s no bacterial involvement requiring immediate attention. Particularly if your symptoms include fever or chills, it’s crucial that professional medical care is sought to prevent complications.

Massage lightly with warm sesame oil around your neck and jawline before bedtime. This can improve circulation in the area and promote relaxation. Continual self-care practices combined with supportive medical treatment could provide the relief you are seeking.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
