Doctors' responses
Considering your daughter’s situation with irregular and heavy menstrual bleeding, I’m inclined to believe there may be a Vata and Pitta dosha imbalance at play. In Ayurveda, irregular menstruation with heavy flow can be linked to aggravated Vata and Pitta doshas, which can influence Rakta dhatu (blood) contributing to prolonged bleeding and clotting.
Immediate Consultation: It’s essential to have her evaluated by a gynecologist to rule out any underlying medical conditions such as hormonal imbalances or disorders like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid issues, or any other uterine abnormalities, through tests like ultrasound or hormonal profiles.
Dietary and Lifestyle Adjustments: Encourage your daughter to include iron-rich foods like spinach, beetroot, and figs in her diet to help manage anemia and fatigue. Hydration is critical; hence she should drink warm water and have herbal teas like fennel or ginger, which soothe both doshas. Avoid spicy, heavy, and processed foods that can further stimulate Pitta.
Ayurvedic Remedies: Preparations like Ashokarishta, which is known for regulating menstrual cycles, could be beneficial but should be used under a qualified practitioner’s supervision. Castor oil packs applied to the lower abdomen may also help in reducing excessive menstrual flow.
Rest & Stress Reduction: Adequate rest is crucial given her fatigue, along with stress management techniques such as yoga or meditation, which can stabilize emotions and cycles. Encouraging regular sleep patterns will greatly contribute to balancing the doshas.
Monitoring Changes: Keeping a menstrual diary for a few cycles will provide beneficial insights into patterns and help guide ongoing treatments.
In case of severe symptoms, or continuation of heavy periods, revisiting a medical professional promptly is necessary, ensuring no critical health issues are present.
