Sappan wood, or “patanga,” is known for its potential benefits in regulating monthly cycles, but addressing PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) effectively requires a broader ayurvedic approach. PCOD is often associated with kapha dosha imbalances. Key areas to focus on include diet, lifestyle changes, and specific herbal remedies that target the root causes.

Start with dietary changes: reduce or eliminate processed foods, refined sugars, and dairy, as these can contribute to kapha imbalance. Incorporate more fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains like quinoa and barley, and spices such as turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon to help boost agni (digestive fire).

A regular routine is vital. Try to wake up early, ideally before sunrise, and engage in physical activity like brisk walking or yoga. This helps manage weight and enhance metabolism. Pranayama, especially kapalbhati and anulom vilom, can be beneficial for balancing hormones.

Herbs such as shatavari, ashwagandha, and triphala may work well in managing symptoms of PCOD. You can take them in powder or tablet forms, but it’s best to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to determine the right dosage based on your prakriti (individual constitution).

If you want to include sappan wood, make a decoction by boiling the wood in water, and consume it once a day, preferably in the morning. However, monitor your cycle closely, and consult with your healthcare provider before making any changes, especially if you are on medications.

Timing and consistency are essential. It may take a few months to see significant improvements, so patience and persistence are key. If symptoms worsen or you notice any adverse effects, seek medical advice promptly. Remember, an integrated approach combining Ayurvedic and conventional treatments can sometimes offer the best outcomes.
