Fissure and pelvic floor tension can often be interlinked, creating a cycle of discomfort and pain. From an Ayurvedic perspective, this condition can result from an imbalance in Vata dosha, particularly Apana Vata, which governs the lower pelvic region. Here’s how you may approach this condition:
First, it’s essential to address the burning sensation post defecation. Applying a mixture of sesame oil with a pinch of turmeric externally may assist in soothing the affected area, promoting healing. Sesame oil is known for its Vata pacifying properties and turmeric helps in reducing inflammation.
You may also consider practicing regular Sitz bath. This involves sitting in warm water up to the hips, adding a handful of neem leaves can enhance its detoxifying effect. Doing this twice daily may help relax the anal sphincter and surrounding muscles, alleviate pain over time.
On the dietary front, incorporate more moisture-rich foods. Take warm, unctuous foods that are easily digestible—think khichdi, soups, and stews. Consume regular small meals and avoid cold or raw foods that can aggravate Vata. Hydrate well, but avoid excessive water intake during meals to not weaken Agni, the digestive fire.
Yoga practice focusing on asanas for pelvic floor relaxation is crucial—consider doing Vajrasana and Malasana for few minutes daily. These positions encourage natural alignment and promote flow. Pranayama techniques like Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breathing) can further help by calming the mind and reducing stress levels.
It’s crucial, though, to consult with a healthcare provider especially if conditions like fissures persist, to rule out the need for medical interventions. If symptoms like bleeding, severe pain or signs of an infection present, seek immediate medical attention. Ayurveda can offer meaningful support, yet in some cases, collaborative care yields the best results.
