Doctors' responses
Acid reflux and left abdominal pain as you’re describing may be interrelated through indigestion or gastric disturbances. In Ayurveda, this could be indicative of an aggravated ‘Pitta’ dosha, which often disrupts the digestive system. Your symptoms also suggest that there may be a ‘Vata’ imbalance contributing to the pain and slow gut motility.
To address this, consider dietary changes first. Enhance your digestive fire (‘Agni’) by consuming warm, cooked meals. Avoid raw foods as these can be harsher on the digestive tract. Incorporate spices like ginger, cumin, and coriander, which can help balance Pitta and aid digestion. Reduce intake of acidic, spicy, or fried foods, which worsen Pitta imbalance, exacerbating reflux.
A valuable herbal support is ‘Triphala’, which can act as a gentle bowel tonic. Take 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of Triphala mixed in warm water before bed to aid bowel movements and support gut health. It helps regulate Vata and supports overall digestion without being too harsh.
Hydrate with room temperature water; avoid ice-cold drinks. Maintaining a regular eating schedule can stabilize digestion. Try to eat smaller meals to prevent overload on your digestive system, aiding both reflux and bowel regularity.
In terms of lifestyle, regular exercise like walking or gentle yoga assists with Vata balance. Specifically, yoga asanas like ‘Paschimottanasana’ (Seated Forward Bend) and ‘Pavanamuktasana’ (Wind-Relieving Pose) are helpful for digestive issues and can ease abdominal discomfort.
Given the history of hysterectomy and persistent symptoms, continue routine follow-ups with your healthcare provider to rule out any other conditions that might contribute to your symptoms. Immediate medical attention is advised if pain escalates or new symptoms develop, to ensure nothing more serious is underlying these discomforts.
