how to use chandan powder on face - #44300
I am really confused about how to use chandan powder on face. A few weeks ago, I read online that it can really help with oily skin and dark spots, which is exactly what I need because lately, my skin has been acting up. I’ve got this pesky acne that just won’t go away, and I feel like I’ve tried every cream and wash under the sun. Ugh! 😩 So, I decided to give chandan powder a shot after hearing about its benefits. I mixed a bit with water and put it on for like, 15 minutes, but honestly, I'm not sure if I did it right. My friends say it's great for glowing skin as well, but I just feel lost. I mean, do I need to apply it daily? And should I mix it with something else too? I was thinking about coconut oil or honey, but not sure if that’s compatible. Also, like, do I need to wash my face with special cleanser afterward or is plain water fine? I really want to know how to use chandan powder on face effectively, 'cause I would love to get my skin back to looking fresh without spending a fortune on products that don’t work. 😩🥺 Thanks, everyone!

Chandan, or sandalwood powder, is indeed cherished in Ayurveda for its soothing and cooling properties, especially beneficial for oily, acne-prone skin. To make the most out of it, you can create a simple face pack. Start by mixing half a teaspoon of chandan powder with rose water—this is particularly effective for oily skin, as it helps balance excess oil and soothe inflammation. If you prefer, honey can be added instead for its moisturizing and antibacterial properties, but avoid coconut oil; it’s more suitable for dry skin and might break you out.
Apply the paste gently over your face, focusing on problem areas like T-zone or where you have breakouts and dark spots. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes until it partially dries; then, rinse it off with lukewarm water. No need for special cleansers afterward, plain water will do. Doing this routine 2-3 times a week should suffice. Overuse, might irritate your skin rather than help it.
For added benefits, you might consider combining chandan powder with turmeric or fuller’s earth (multani mitti), both have excellent healing and oil-absorbing qualities. You can alter the mixture depending on how your skin reacts.
While using chandan is generally safe, always perform a patch test before first full application, to rule out any allergies or adverse reactions. Also importantly, continue with your regular skincare, including a gentle cleanser and non-comedogenic moisturizer suitable for oily skin.
Lastly, as skin issues can be due to internal imbalances too, keep an eye on your diet and lifestyle, reduce spicy, oily foods, increase water intake and get adequate rest. Ayurveda is holistic, so overall wellness reflects in your skin. Anytime you have significant skin concerns though, consider consulting with a healthcare professional for comprehensive guidance.
