Here is a detailed list of Dos and Don'ts for managing diet: Dos: Eat Small, Frequent Meals: Aim for 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day to reduce the strain on the digestive system and improve nutrient absorption. Incorporate Anti-inflammatory Foods: Include turmeric (with black pepper) in food or as a warm drink to reduce inflammation and support the liver. Ginger is another anti-inflammatory herb that can be used in cooking or in warm teas. Focus on Easily Digestible Foods: Opt for soups, broths, smoothies, khichdi (a simple dish of rice and lentils), and stews that are gentle on the stomach and liver. Cooked vegetables like carrots, zucchini, spinach, and pumpkin are easier to digest and provide essential nutrients. Include Liver-Supporting Foods: Bitter foods like bitter gourd (karela), dandelion greens, and fenugreek (methi) are beneficial for detoxifying the liver. Amla (Indian gooseberry) is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants that support liver health and boost immunity. Milk thistle can be added to the diet (in powder or supplement form) for liver detoxification. Incorporate Healthy Fats: Use ghee (clarified butter) in cooking for its nourishing and healing properties, especially for a weakened digestive system. Avoid Heavy and Spicy Foods: Avoid spicy, oily, or heavily seasoned foods as they may aggravate the digestive system and cause discomfort. Limit Salt Intake: Avoid excessive salt in food, as it can increase bloating and water retention, and may also interfere with kidney and liver function. Avoid Cold and Refrigerated Foods: Cold foods and drinks should be avoided, as they can disrupt digestion, especially during cancer treatments, and weaken the digestive fire (Agni). Avoid Foods with Chemicals and Pesticides: Non-organic produce and foods that are treated with pesticides should be avoided to minimize the body’s toxin load. Stick to fresh, organic foods where possible. Avoid Eating Close to Bedtime: Avoid eating heavy meals late in the evening to allow for proper digestion before sleep.
