Shatavari, a revered herb in Ayurveda, is known for its reproductive health benefits, particularly for balancing female hormones. It’s traditionally used to nourish the female reproductive organs and support healthy menstruation. When it comes to fibroids, the effectiveness and safety of Shatavari can be a bit nuanced. Shatavari is thought to potentially promote the growth of body tissues due to it’s nourishing and building qualities, which raised concerns for women with fibroids as there’s a belief it may contribute to the growth of these benign tumors. However, one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t apply, as individual responses can vary based on the unique balance of doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). In some cases, if a woman already has pita or kapha imbalance contributing to fibroid growth, introducing Shatavari may not be recommended. But for another with hormone imbalances underlying their fibroids, it could provide benefits.
Since you have subserous fibroids and are already experiencing fluctuating menstrual patterns, it would be wise to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner who understands your complete health picture for personalized advice. They could consider your overall constitution (prakriti), current imbalances (vikriti), and any other health dynamics influenced by your ITP and medication.
In terms of Ayurvedic protocol, addressing fibroids often involves balancing doshas and optimizing digestion — Agni. Including digestive spices like cumin, coriander and fennel in your diet can be useful and aim to consume warm, cooked meals that aid in digestion.
Observing any additional symptoms since you started Shatavari can also help guide next steps. If you notice increased bloating, discomfort, or further menstrual irregularities, reaching out to your Ayurvedic consultant for a review of your treatment plan is advisable. Remember, Ayurveda emphasizes individual treatment, and adjustments may be necessary.
