Seeking Advice for Parkinson's and Tinnitus Management - #45176

Client_bf47d3

I have hereditary Parkinson's. My mother had it really bad to the extent that she could not even eat or drink by herself. I am not nearly as bad yet. I am 58 years old. I used to drink alcohol but have quit and have been sober for 4 years now. I don't drink coffee but do drink tea, primarily Green Tea. I have just bought Maharasnadi Kashaya Choornam but have not started taking it yet. Other than that, I have Tinnitus, ringing in both ears, pretty bad. I used garlic oil and Bilwadi oil but no relief. Kindly educate me and advise please. Thank you.

For Parkinson’s management, focus on Vata balancing as Parkinson’s is predominantly classified under Vata imbalance in Ayurveda. Maharasnadi Kashayam can indeed be beneficial. Start with a low dosage, about 1 tbsp of the prepared kashayam taken twice a day before meals with warm water. Monitor how your body responds before making any changes to the dosage. Consistency is key, so maintain a regular schedule.

Incorporate grounding and nourishing foods like whole grains, cooked fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats like ghee or sesame oil into your diet. These can help pacify Vata. Avoid dry, cold, and raw foods.

For your tinnitus, which can also be related to Vata, make sure you are keeping warm. Avoid exposure to cold winds and excessive loud noises. The oils you mentioned, garlic oil and Bilwadi oil, can be good but, consider adding Nasya, a nasal therapy using warm sesame oil or Anu tailam. Starting with 2 drops in each nostril in the morning can help balance Vata in the head region.

Daily practices like “Abhyanga” (self-massage) with warm sesame oil followed by a warm shower can be grounding and relaxing. Also, practicing gentle Yoga and Pranayama, focusing particularly on calming exercises like alternate nostril breathing, can regulate your energies.

Remember that personalized guidance is essential, so it is good to work closely with an Ayurveda practitioner for monitoring and dosage adjustments. Additionally, continue consulting with your neurologist to monitor the progression of Parkinson’s and to manage medications effectively.

It’s important to not stop any prescribed medication abruptly as that could have serious health consequences. Yoga, meditation, and maintaining a peaceful life rhythm can support mind-body wellness and reduce stress which can be a trigger for both Parkinson’s symptoms and tinnitus.

For managing Parkinson’s and tinnitus, focusing on balancing Vata dosha is crucial as it tends to be the root cause of these symptoms in the Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective. Your sobriety and green tea consumption are positive lifestyle choices that can aid in maintaining this balance.

To address Parkinson’s, Maharasnadi Kashaya Churnam is a good selection. Begin with 1 teaspoon mixed with warm water, taken twice daily after meals. This formulation can help enhance mobility and reduce stiffness. Additionally, incorporating Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) and Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) can support cognitive clarity and resilience; both herbs are known to calm the nervous system. Ashwagandha can be consumed as a supplement or with warm milk at night.

For tinnitus, focus on improving circulation and calming the mind. Continue the Bilwadi oil application; gently massage it around the ears daily. You can enhance this by introducing Nasya therapy. Two drops of Anu Taila, applied to each nostril in the morning, can reduce excess Vata near the head area and improve ear health.

Dietary adjustments also enhance this approach. Minimize consumption of raw and cold foods, as well as, beans, and prefer warm, cooked meals with easily digestible spices like ginger, cumin, and turmeric. Ensure your diet includes plenty of healthy fats, such as ghee, which nurture the nervous tissue.

Remember, Ayurveda works best alongside your conventional treatments, so keep in communication with your healthcare provider for a comprehensive approach. Lastly, regular gentle exercises like yoga or Tai Chi are beneficial for stability and mental peace.
