For IBS and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, addressing the dosha imbalances is crucial. You haven’t mentioned your specific dosha, but given your symptoms, it seems like vata and pitta might be unbalanced. Start by modifying your diet. Avoid raw foods and cold beverages, focus on cooked, warm meals to balance vata. Lentils and beans can cause gas, so choose mung dal or red lentils, which are easier to digest. Opt, for small, frequent meals to prevent overload on your system and minimize indigestion. Include ginger tea, fennel seeds, or cumin water to enhance digestion and relieve bloating.
Since you’ve had your gallbladder removed, incorporate healthy fats sparingly. Ghee is recommended in Ayurveda for its digestive and healing properties, but use it in moderation. Consider Ayurvedic herbs like triphala, known for regulating digestion and relieving constipation. Consume triphala powder with warm water before bed, but adjust the quantity based on your body’s response. Since you experience heartburn, minimize pitta-aggravating foods such as spicy and oily dishes. Aloe vera juice and amla are cooling and can soothe heartburn.
Daily lifestyle practices can help too. Abhyanga (oil massage) with sesame oil can pacify vata. Gentle yoga focusing on twists and forward bends can aid in digestion and relieve stress. Pranayama, particularly alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana), can also support your nervous and digestive system.
Due to your heart stents and complex medical history, always consult your healthcare provider before major changes. Your condition might require an integrative approach, combining Ayurveda with modern medicine for optimal results. .
It sounds like your condition presents a complex challenge, particularly with the interplay between IBS, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and your past medical history. From a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, your symptoms suggest an imbalance primarily in the Vata dosha, owing to the digestive issues, bloating, and irregular bowel movements. The absence of gallbladder affects bile’s role in digestion, contributing to your current indigestion and heartburn.
To help soothe these issues, begin by having a quarter teaspoon of ginger powder mixed with warm water 30 minutes before meals. This can stimulate agni, or digestive fire, easing symptoms like gas and bloating. Including buttermilk with a pinch of hing (asafoetida) and rock salt in your diet after lunch may also regulate digestion. Gulkand (rose petal jam) supports the digestive system; consume one teaspoon in the evening.
Banyan tree bark infusion may have applications specific to managing Ehlers-Danlos by strengthening connective tissues. Create a mild decoction and consume a quarter cup daily. Given the chronic nature and complexity of your conditions, make lifestyle adjustments such as maintaining regular meal times and avoiding raw salads, which can be heavy on your digestion. A light, warm meal, small but frequent, can help normalize Vata.
Given that Ehlers-Danlos involves multiple systems and you have heart stints, maintain regular check-ups with a conventional physician alongside any Ayurvedic regimen. If symptoms escalate abruptly—a sign of digestive blockages or cardiac distress—urgent conventional care is imperative. Balancing these healing approaches with modern medical advice can offer you the most comprehensive care.
