Hair fall and thinning can emerge from various root causes like imbalances in dosha, stress, poor diet, or improper hair care routines. To address these concerns, here’s how you can take practical Siddha-Ayurvedic steps to promote healthy hair growth.
Firstly, assess your diet. A sattvic diet with nutrient-rich foods supports your body’s agni (digestive fire), which is crucial for nourishing sapta dhatus (seven body tissues), including hair. Incorporate fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, good fats like ghee, nuts, and seeds. Chia seeds or sabja seeds can be beneficial due to their Omega-3 fatty acids content; consuming them can promote healthy scalp. Mix them with milk or water and consume it in moderation.
Consider your dosha type. If you have a Vata imbalance, which is often linked to dryness and hair breakage, increase hydration and strive for a routine that includes warm oil massages. Taila (oil) massages with bhringraj or coconut oil three times a week can improve circulation and nourish hair roots.
For Pitta imbalance, which may manifest as inflammation or premature greying, calming teas like chamomile or mint and cooling food could balance Pitta. Reduce heat-stimulating foods like chili and alcohol.
Now hygiene plays a role too, so make sure not to overwash hair; twice a week is adequate with a mild herbal shampoo, preferably with ingredients like shikakai or reetha. Reduce chemical-laden hair products as they can disrupt scalp health.
Lastly, practice stress-relieving activities like pranayama or yoga—as mental stress can aggravate dosha imbalance leading to hair problems. Regularly assess your condition; if hair loss continues or worsens, consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner for customized remedies is advisable.
