Hello I understand your worry and fear quite well. It is very upsetting emotionally when you are advised to have surgery for a benign jaw tumor and cyst, especially if there is a risk of facial deformity. Ayurveda does have a supportive, conservative approach to management in some benign, slow-growing conditions. So don’t be worried, we are here to support you 😊
YOUR CONCERN
You have: -Benign jaw tumor and cyst (left side, below the jaw) -Duration: More than 6 months Mild pain
Surgery advised in allopathy with a risk of facial deformity You have already tried some Ayurvedic treatment
AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING
According to Ayurveda, these types of swellings are generally included in: -Granthi / Arbuda (benign type) -Caused by Kapha dominance with Vata association -Along with Ama accumulation and local Srotorodha (blockage)
Important note:
Ayurveda does not offer a complete and immediate disappearance of tumors. The main goals are to: –Stop further growth –Inflammation and cystic part reduction –Improve local blood circulation –Immune regulation support –Surgery avoidance or delay only if the lesion is stable
INTERNAL MEDICATION (Supportive & Conservative)
1. Kanchanar Guggulu – 2 tablets twice daily after food -Classical medicine for Granthi & Arbuda - Helps in reduction of abnormal tissue growth - Stimulation of lymphatic drainage
2. Varunadi Kashayam – 15 ml twice daily with an equal amount of warm water - Helps in cystic swellings - Removes Kapha accumulation - Provides tissue metabolism
3. Gandhak Rasayan – 1 tablet twice daily after food - Works as a blood purifier - Helps in reduction of chronic inflammation - Supports the process of healing
4. Haridra Khanda – 1 tsp once daily with warm water - Anti-inflammatory - Helps immune modulation - Helps in cystic & allergic tendencies
EXTERNAL APPLICATION (VERY IMPORTANT)
1. Local Lepam (Application) Once a day externally over the swelling apply: Marmagullika Warm it up with water or lemon juice Gently apply for 20 mins, then wash
- Assists in localized Kapha reduction - Promotes blood flow - May alleviate the area of discomfort
⚠️ Do NOT massage vigorously
DIETARY GUIDELINES (MANDATORY)
❌STRICTLY AVOID
Dairy (milk, curd, cheese) Sugar and sweets Deep-fat foods, oily foods, Junk foods Cold drinks and ice Night heavy meals
✅INCLUDE
Warm, freshly cooked food Green leafy vegetables Turmeric, ginger, black pepper Barley, millet, moong dal Warm water throughout the day
LIFESTYLE ADVICE
Do not sleep during the day Avoid stress (stress aggravates Vata & Kapha) Gentle neck and jaw movements (no force) Practice good oral hygiene
MONITORING IS ESSENTIAL
Please make sure that: Regular imaging (CT / MRI as advised)
If there is rapid growth, increased pain, numbness, difficulty in opening the mouth or swallowing, do not delay surgery
Ayurveda is most effective when:
- Tumor is benign - Growth is slow - Borders are well defined - No nerve involvement
IMPORTANT HONEST GUIDANCE
Ayurveda is able to support, stabilize, and sometimes alleviate symptoms However, it cannot make a complete resolution of all jaw tumors If aggressiveness or complications show up, you should follow the surgical opinion
A combined approach — careful Ayurvedic treatment + regular medical observation — is the most prudent and patient-centric way to proceed in your situation.
Kind Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate

In Ayurveda, benign tumors and cysts are often seen as an imbalance in the body’s doshas, particularly the kapha dosha, which can lead to accumulation of waste products or blockages. However, when it comes to any type of tumor, especially one that could potentially affect the face, it is critical to prioritize medical advice from a specialist or a surgeon if they recommend urgent surgery. This is important to avoid complications.
That said, alongside prescribed medical treatments, Ayurveda may offer supportive care to balance your doshas and maintain overall health. It is essential, however, to use such treatments as supplementary rather than alternatives to conventional advice.
Triphala is often recommended in Ayurveda for its detoxifying and balancing properties. You can take 1 teaspoon of Triphala churna with warm water before bed each day. It can help in improving digestion and supporting liver function, which is essential in managing waste in the body.
Additionally, stress reduction techniques such as meditation and Pranayama (deep breathing exercises) can help to balance your body’s energies. Practicing Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) daily for 15 minutes could bring a sense of balance and calmness.
Pay attention to your diet, incorporating Kapha-pacifying foods like warming spices (ginger, turmeric), and minimizing cold and damp-inducing foods, and reduce sugar intake substantially.
Herbal formulations like Guggulu can be beneficial, but should be taken upon consultation with a qualified Ayurvedic practicioner to ensure they are appropriate for your condition. Certain herbs may interfere with other treatments or have side effects on their own.
Ensure to keep your body well hydrated and maintain oral hygiene using appropriate gentle herbal tooth powders or clove oil, but avoid its overuse as it can be strong. Always consult an Ayurvedic doctor for personalized treatment after considering your full medical history and current condition.
For a benign jaw tumor and cyst, while it’s understandable you seek alternatives to surgery, it’s important to prioritize safe and effective treatment options, especially when allopathic practitioners suggest surgical intervention. In Ayurveda, we understand such growths as potentially due to imbalances in kapha dosha, which can lead to formation of abnormal tissue or fluid retention.
Although Ayurveda offers treatments for managing imbalances, it’s crucial to first acknowledge the severity and potential implications of your condition. Often, with tumors and cysts, particularly in sensitive areas like the jaw, medical intervention can be necessary and lifesaving. Ayurveda can be supportive as a complementary approach rather than a sole treatment.
For supporting general balance and health from an Ayurvedic perspective, consider these steps:
1. Dietary Adjustments: Focus on a pacifying kapha diet. This could include reducing heavy, oily, and sweet foods. Instead, emphasize lighter, warm, and drying foods, such as leafy greens, lentils, and spices like ginger and black pepper.
2. Herbal Support: Triphala can help in detoxifying the body and managing kapha. Take it in powdered form at bedtime with warm water. Turmeric, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, can also be beneficial. Mix a teaspoon with warm milk or water daily.
3. Lifestyle: Stay active to avoid kapha stagnation. Gentle yoga and regular exercise can be beneficial in maintaining energy flow and overall vitality.
Before proceeding with any new regimen, it’s vital to discuss these approaches with a healthcare provider who understands your complete medical profile, particularly if surgery could serve a critical need. Always ensure any integrative treatments do not conflict with necessary medical interventions.
