Can I heal from Lichen Sclerosis and Hashimoto's? - #45981
I am a 61 year old woman and almost 10 years I have lichen sclerosis. Doctors say there is no remedie and they only say I can supress it with cortisone cream. I also have Hashimoto. I don’t know if there is a correlation between them. Can I heal from lichen sclerosis. And if so, how? Thanks, ❤️🙏

While Lichen Sclerosis and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis are chronic conditions often, Ayurveda can provide a complimentary approach to managing their symptoms and potentially improving quality of life. Lichen Sclerosis could be linked to an imbalance in the Vata and Kapha doshas, affecting the skin and tissue integrity. Hashimoto’s, meanwhile, is frequently related to digestive issues and accumulation of toxins (ama) affecting the thyroid and immune system.
Firstly, it’s vital to support your digestive fire (agni) since a strong agni can help prevent toxin accumulation. Begin the day with a glass of warm water mixed with fresh ginger and a sprinkle of turmeric, as this aids digestion and reduces inflammation. Eating cooked, warm meals are recommended, primarily including vegetables like carrots, beetroots, and sweet potatoes, which balance Vata. Avoid raw and cold foods, which can disturb your digestive fire.
For Lichen Sclerosis particularly, applying coconut oil topically can provide relief and enhance skin softness. Turmeric paste made with coconut oil, applied to affected areas, might also have soothing effects due to turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties. Ensure the area is properly cleaned and dried before application.
Herbal support, like Ashwagandha, known for its adaptogenic propriedades, might help support the immune system, while medications like Triphala aid detoxification and support digestive health. These herbs should be part of a holistic approach and used with guidance from a qualified practitioner.
Stress management is important as both conditions can be exacerbated by stress. Consider incorporating daily practices such as yoga, meditation, or even simple mindful breathing exercises. Restorative poses can harmonize the body’s energy and promote relaxation.
While Ayurveda provides effective strategies to complement your existing treatment, it’s essential to continue any recommended medications from your healthcare provider and regularly attend check-ups to monitor your condition. Ensuring a balance between these holistic approaches and medical guidance can lead to the best outcomes.
