Yes — a Bartholin cyst can be visible on the outer part of the vulva. A Bartholin cyst usually appears as: –A round or oval swelling –On one side of the vaginal opening –Often visible externally (outer vulva), not inside the vagina
It can look like: –A red or skin-colored bump –Soft or slightly firm –Painful only while walking, sitting, or friction
Early-stage cysts are often not constantly painful.
👉Relation to waxing (important) Since you mentioned: Waxing 1 week ago Bump appeared 4 days ago
👉 Waxing can: Block Bartholin gland ducts Cause local inflammation Trigger folliculitis or a Bartholin duct blockage
So waxing can be a trigger, especially if the area was irritated
How to differentiate from other bumps Bartholin cyst Location-One side near vaginal opening Pain- Mild, with walking/friction Discharge -Usually none (unless infected)
Ingrown hair / boil Location- Anywhere with hair Pain- Often painful to touch Discharge- May have pus
If it becomes: Very painful Hot Rapidly enlarging Feverish
👉 It may be turning into a Bartholin abscess and needs medical attention.
What you should do now (early stage care)
IMMEDIATE CARE
Warm sitz bath (lukewarm water) 👉 10–15 minutes, 2–3 times daily
Avoid: -Tight clothing - Re-waxing or shaving - Pressing or popping the bump
Pain control If needed, simple pain relief is okay Walk slowly, reduce friction
–Most Bartholin cysts are benign –Many resolve on their own with warm care –Early management prevents surgery

It might not be a bartholin cyst, due to friction to hair follicles you may have developed pimple , you watch for 2 to 3 days , if still persistent then you can start treatment otherwise nothing is required Do not prick it
Yes , a bartholin cyst can sometimes be seen or felt from outside, but what you’re describing does not strongly fit typical bartholin cyst especially considering the recent waxing
A bartholin cyst usually develops near the vaginal opening on one side, it is often felt as a deep swelling rather than a superficial red bump… The skin over, it usually looks normal unless it becomes infected Pain is more noticeable while sitting or during pressure and many cysts are painless unless they turn into an abscess
In your case, the bump appeared a few days after waxing, which is red and pain is usually seen while walking due to friction. This pattern is much more commonly seen with a vaccine related issues, such as an ingrown hair, a blocked hair follicle, or a small boil. These are superficial can look red or inflamed, and often hurt intermittently when clothings against them more while walking
Do not squeeze the area Avoid tight clothes and keep the area clean and dry Most such bums reduce on their own within a few days If the swelling increases becomes very painful, if there is any discharge or does not subside over a week, then consult gynaecologist and take opinion
This is not a Bartholin cyst. Bartholin cysts occur inside the vaginal opening. Since the bump is on the outer side and appeared after waxing, it is an infected hair follicle due to trauma.
Medicines Triphala Guggulu: 2 tablets twice daily with warm water. Gandhak Rasayan: 1 tablet twice daily after food.
External Therapy Sitz Bath: Boil Triphala powder or Neem leaves in water. Mix with warm water in a tub and sit in it for 10 minutes daily. This will ripen the boil and drain it naturally.
Apply a mix of Turmeric (Haldi) and Aloe Vera directly on the bump to kill the infection.
Lifestyle Advice Wear loose cotton underwear to prevent friction while walking. Do not squeeze or pop it. It will spread the infection.

Bartholin cysts typically form in the Bartholin’s glands, which are located near the vaginal opening. These cysts might not always be visible externally, especially because they are generally situated deeper within the glandular area. However, if an infection occurs, the cyst can swell and potentially protrude, making it sometimes noticeable or even palpable from the outside. Given that you noticed a red bump on the outer part, it’s possible that you’re dealing with a different issue, such as an ingrown hair or folliculitis, especially given recent waxing.
And this redness and pain you feel when walking can be understood through Ayurvedic principles. From an Ayurvedic perspective, such conditions could be a sign of Pitta imbalance, resulting from the heat and inflammation in the body. The use of waxing, which is a heating process, might have exacerbated the excess heat in the skin tissues, leading to this condition. You might want to apply a soothing and cooling paste made from sandalwood with a little rose water to the affected area. This can help in reducing redness and irritation, plus it’s gentle enough for sensitive skin areas.
Moreover, consider avoiding spicy, fried, or excessively salty foods for a few days, as they may aggravate Pitta dosha. Instead, focus more on cooling foods like cucumbers and cooling herbal teas like mint. Keep the area clean and dry to prevent any further irritation or infection.
However, if the bump persists, becomes more painful, or if you suspect it to be a Bartholin cyst or any other concern, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare professional. They can provide a more thorough examination and proper treatment, especially if an infection is present.
Bartholin cyst is more near vagina, if it’s big it can be seen outer side. Since you have also done waxing a week ago. , possible of a boil or cyst is possible. Take Kanchanar guggul 1-0-1 after food with water Vriddhivadhika vati 1-0-1 after food with water Wash with triphala kwath twice daily. Follow up after 10 days
