Hello, With type 2 diabetes and new-onset dry, itchy, bumpy skin for the last 2–4 weeks, your symptoms are most consistent with diabetic xerosis with pruritus, sometimes associated with early follicular irritation or mild fungal/bacterial overgrowth due to fluctuating blood sugars.

Even when sugars are “reasonably controlled,” skin often becomes dry and sensitive first, because diabetes reduces skin oil production, micro-circulation, and immunity.

The good news is — this is very manageable and reversible with proper skin care, sugar stabilization, and mild internal support.

🔎 What to Check (Important) (If not done in the last 3 months) Fasting & PP blood sugar HbA1c Renal function tests (dry itchy skin can worsen if kidneys are stressed)

🌿 Management & Treatment Phase 1 – Calm Itching & Restore Skin Barrier (2–3 weeks) 🔹 Internal Support 1.Nishamalaki Churna – ½ tsp with warm water after dinner 2.Guduchi Churna / Tablet – 500 mg once daily after breakfast 3.Triphala Churna – ½ tsp at bedtime with warm water (3–4 times/week only)

🔹 External Skin Care (Very Important) Oil application (daily) • Coconut oil + few drops of castor oil • Apply to dry areas after bath and before sleep Bathing care • Use lukewarm water (not hot) • Avoid soap on itchy areas daily • Prefer mild, fragrance-free cleanser If bumps are itchy • Apply neem oil diluted in coconut oil (1:5) once daily • Avoid scratching

Phase 2 – Prevent Recurrence (4–6 weeks) 1.Khadirarishta – 15 ml with equal water after meals, twice daily 2.Amalaki Rasayana / Churna – ½ tsp once daily after breakfast

🥗 Diet & Lifestyle Support ❌ Avoid • Very hot showers • Excess sugar & refined carbs • Packaged snacks • Tight synthetic clothing ✅ Include • Adequate protein • 1 tsp cow ghee daily (improves skin barrier) • Green vegetables • Zinc-rich foods (pumpkin seeds) • Cotton clothing

🚶🏻‍♂️ Lifestyle Tips • Keep nails short • Moisturize twice daily • Maintain good foot hygiene (important in diabetes) • Continue regular walking

🚨 When to Consult Immediately • If bumps become red, painful, or ooze • If itching is severe at night • If sugar levels suddenly worsen

🕉️ Expected Improvement • Itching reduces: 7–10 days • Dryness improves: 2–3 weeks • Skin texture normalizes: 4–6 weeks

✨ Diabetic skin changes are common but treatable. Early care prevents complications.

With kind regards, Dr. Sumi MS (Ayu)
