Hello Thanks for telling us about your health issues. Constant ear itching, swelling, and infections can be awful, especially with fibromyalgia, thyroid problems, and high blood pressure. But don’t worry we are here to help you out 😊 YOUR CONCERN Age- 66-year-old – Non-stop ear itching – Swelling after you scratch – Infections that keep coming back, with pain – Fibromyalgia – Thyroid issues – High blood pressure What Ayurveda Says In Ayurveda, this sounds like Karna Kandu with Pitta-Kapha Dushti. – Kapha makes things moist, sticky, and can cause fungus. – Pitta leads to redness, burning, pain, and infection. – Vata causes dryness and itching. Scratching a lot hurts your ear skin, which lets infections come back. Fibromyalgia and thyroid problems also weaken your immune system, so it takes longer to heal. What We Want to Do – Stop the itching – Heal your ear skin – Get rid of the fungus/bacteria – Keep it from coming back – Make your immune system stronger Ayurvedic Treatment Plan 1 Gandhak Rasayan 1 tablet, twice a day, after eating Great for ongoing skin infections and itching. 2. Haridra Khanda ½ teaspoon, twice a day, with warm water Keeps allergies and swelling down. 3.Triphala Guggulu 2 tablets, twice a day, after eating Cleans your blood and stops pus from forming. 4. Mahatiktaka Kashayam 15 ml + 15 ml warm water, twice a day, before eating Clears out deep infections. Ear Care (Really Important) Neem-Sessame ear drops Mix: – Neem oil: 1 drop – Warm sesame oil: 2 drops Put 2 drops in the bad ear once a day for 7–10 days. (This kills fungus and heals the skin) Things to Do – Don’t use cotton swabs – Keep your ears dry – Use a hairdryer on cool after you shower HOME REMEDIES – Drink turmeric water every day – Put a little neem oil around your ear – Don’t scratch DIET PLAN INCLUDE – Bitter veggies – Moong dal – Warm, cooked food – Ginger-turmeric tea AVOID – Sugar – Milk, yogurt – Fried food – Cold drinks These make Kapha and fungus grow more. Your ears aren’t the only issue—your immune system, Kapha, and Pitta are all out of balance. If we treat the inside, it’ll stop for good. Wishing you care and healing, Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate

-Based on your description: itchy ears, swelling that worsens when scratched, pain, and signs of infection, this could indicate otitis externa (commonly called “swimmer’s ear”) or a bacterial/viral ear infection. In older adults, ear infections can become serious if untreated, especially with swelling, pain, and possible fever. -Do now: Do not scratch – it worsens infection. Keep ear dry. See a ENT specialist for proper evaluation first

Thank you for sharing this so clearly and I understand how distressing this has been for you especially when it keeps coming back despite treatment Based on what you are describing long standing itching of the ears with swelling pain and repeated infection for more than six months this looks like a chronic inflammatory condition of the ear skin and ear canal rather than a simple infection alone The constant itching itself damages the delicate skin and once the skin barrier is broken it easily gets swollen painful and infected again At your age and with conditions like fibromyalgia thyroid imbalance and high blood pressure the body’s inflammatory response and skin healing are usually slower Thyroid imbalance often causes dryness hypersensitivity and itching of skin Fibromyalgia is associated with nerve hypersensitivity which can make itching sensations stronger even without an obvious trigger Repeated use of medicines especially drops containing antibiotics or steroids can sometimes thin the skin and worsen long term itching From an Ayurvedic point of view this is commonly seen when vata and pitta are both disturbed in the ear region Vata causes dryness irritation and nerve sensitivity Pitta causes inflammation swelling redness pain and infection When both remain aggravated for a long time the ear skin becomes very reactive even to touch and scratching worsens the cycle The first and most important step is to stop mechanical irritation Avoid inserting fingers cotton buds hairpins or tissues into the ear even when itching is severe Keep ears dry after bathing Do not pour oil water or home remedies inside the ear without guidance Internally calming inflammation and hypersensitivity is essential Along with your regular medicines for blood pressure and thyroid you can usually take Gandhak rasayan 1 tablet twice daily after food Kaishore guggulu 1 tablet twice daily after food These help reduce chronic skin inflammation infection tendency and allergic response If digestion is weak or you have acidity then avipattikar churna half teaspoon at night with warm water can help reduce internal heat which often reflects as ear itching For local care only external application should be done unless ear drum status is known Apply a very small amount of sterile medicated oil like jatyadi oil or plain coconut oil gently around the outer ear and ear opening skin once daily Do not push it inside This helps heal cracks and reduces itching Diet plays a big role Avoid very spicy fried sour fermented foods Excess tea coffee sugar and packaged snacks Increase warm cooked foods vegetables soaked almonds adequate water intake Because this problem is chronic and recurrent I strongly advise one proper ENT examination to rule out fungal infection eczema allergic otitis or canal narrowing especially since swelling and pain occur repeatedly Once we know the exact condition treatment becomes more targeted and safer You are not doing anything wrong and this is not a simple hygiene issue Chronic ear itching is very common in older adults with thyroid and nerve sensitivity issues With the right internal support skin healing and avoidance of irritation this can definitely be brought under control If you want you can tell me whether the itching is more inside the ear or mainly outside and whether there is discharge dryness or flakes so I can guide you more precisely

✓Immediate Do’s & Don’ts Stop scratching completely even gentle itching worsens infection & swelling Never put anything inside ears (no cotton buds, oils, fingers, ear drops unless prescribed) No water in ears use cotton ball with Vaseline during bath/shower Avoid earbuds/headphones for now ✓Safe Home Care (start today) Warm olive oil = 2–3 drops lukewarm in each ear once daily and lie 5 min each side (softens crust/dry skin, soothes itching) Cold compress - wrapped ice pack on outer ear 10 min 3–4×/day (reduces swelling & pain) Over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% cream , apply very thin layer only on outer ear (not deep inside) 2×/day for max 7 days (reduces itching & inflammation) ✓Ayurvedic Support Bilvadi Taila or plain sesame oil = 2 drops warm in each ear nightly (soothes & prevents dryness) Haridrakhand = 5 gm night with warm water (strong anti-allergic, reduces itching from inside) Neem capsule — 250–500 mg twice daily (natural anti-fungal & anti-bacterial for infection risk) ✓Urgent Action See ENT specialist within 3–5 days = you likely need: Otomicroscopy + ear swab (culture) Prescription antibiotic/anti-fungal ear drops Possible short course oral antihistamine or steroid if severe Regards Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma

HELLO, Since this has been going on more than 6 months with itching, swelling, and recurrent infection, this suggests a chronic ear condition, commonly seen as -chronic otitis externa (external ear inflammation) -eczema/dermatitis of ear canal -fungal ear infection (especially if very itchy) -allergic or autoimmune tendency (more common with thyroid disorders In Ayurveda, this condition is often correlated with -karna kandu (itching in ear) -karna shoola (swelling) -pitta rakta imbalance with vata dryness Chronic itching that becomes painful suggests -First stage= vata dryness -> itching -Second stage= pitta inflammation-> swelling+ pain -Third stage= kapha-> discharge/infection So treatment must -reduce inflammation -stop itching -prevent infection -correct internal imbalance INTERNAL MEDICATION 1) BLOOD AND PITTA BALANCING -MAHAMANJISTHADI KASHAYA= 15ml with warm water twice daily after meals =helps in chronic inflammation and skin related itching -GUDUCHHI GHAN VATI = 2 tabs twice daily after meals =anti inflammatory, immune modulator -KHADIRARISHTA= 15ml with equal water after lunch = helpful in chronic itching disorders 2) FOR RECURRENT INFECTION TENDENDCY -GANDHAK RASAYANA= 1 tab twice daily after meals =very useful in chronic skin + itching + mild infection 3) FOR FIBROMAYLGIA AND VATA BALANCE Since fibromyalgia indicates high vata -ASHWAGANDHA CAPSULE= 500mg at night LOCAL TREATMENT Do not scratch inside ear canal. It worsensswelling 1) GENTLE EAR OIL (if no active discharge) warm(lukewarm, not hot) -Bilva tailaa 2 drops at night for 5-7 days Do not use if -pus discharge -severe pain -perforated eardrum 2) IF ACTIVE INFECTION WITH SWELLING Instead of oil, use -sterile cotton dipped in diluted neem decoction -place at outer ear only (not deep inside) DIET -warm water -turmeric milk if no mucus -cooked vegetables -bottle gourd , ridge gourd -coriander water AVOID -curd -cold food -fermented food -excess salt -very spicy food -fried food LIFESTYLE -avoid inserting earbuds or sharp objects -keep ears dry after bath -manage stress (important for fibromyalgia + itching) -light oil massage to feet at night (reduce vata) HOW LONG FOR IMPROVEMENT? With proper management -Itching improves in 2-3 weeks -swelling reduces in 1-2 weeks -chornic tendency improves In 2-3 months DO FOLLOW HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL THANK YOU DR. MAITRI ACHARYA
