Doctors’ responses
Welcome to the Ayurvedic way of living, Greg! A great starting point is understanding your unique Prakriti (natural constitution) by learning about the three Doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—and how they influence your body and mind. Begin by exploring foundational texts like The Complete Book of Ayurveda Home Remedies by Dr. Vasant Lad, which offers practical advice for daily routines, or delve into The Ayurveda Bible by Anne McIntyre for a beginner-friendly overview. Incorporate simple Ayurvedic practices like drinking warm water in the morning, using Triphala for gentle detoxification, and following a seasonal diet. Gradually integrate these concepts into your daily life for a holistic and sustainable approach to wellness.

Namaste Greg,
Welcome to Ayurveda! To begin your journey:
Understand Your Dosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha): Take a Dosha quiz or consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to discover your unique constitution. This helps tailor your diet, lifestyle, and routines.
Daily Practices (Dinacharya): Incorporate simple habits like tongue scraping, oil pulling, Abhyanga (self-massage), and waking with the sun.
Triphala: A great starting herb for digestion and detox. Take 1 teaspoon with warm water before bed.
Learn the Basics: Start with introductory books like The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies by Dr. Vasant Lad or Ayurveda: The Science of Self-Healing.
Explore Ayurveda step-by-step, and align with nature for balance and vitality.

Hey Greg, it sounds like you're in a great place to start diving into Ayurveda. So, you’re already eating plant-based, that’s cool cause it can align well with Ayurveda which often recommends fresh, whole foods that balance your doshas.
Speaking of doshas, that's a good starting point. Basically, doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) are body energies derived from the five elements. They influence everything from body type to personality and health. You might wanna check out some basic quizzes online to figure out your own dosha type – it can be Vata, Pitta, or Kapha, ya know? See which dosha is dominant in you, even though we all have a bit of each.
Triphala’s great – it's like a household name in Ayurveda. It's good for digestion, helps detoxify the body, and can boost immunity. Just be careful with the dosage, it can sometimes lower blood sugar levels if taken excessively. Generally, a teaspoon with warm water before bed is a typical suggestion. But start slow and see how it feels.
I’d say a great place to start learning would be books by Dr. Vasant Lad or Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar. They got a way of explaining things that makes it feel super relatable and easy to understand. Also, classes or workshops, even online ones, can be super helpful to grasp the basics and meet other like-minded if you're into that.
Just ponder taking it one step at a time,. adapting bits that fit your lifestyle. Ayurveda's a journey rather than a destination, right? You can try incorporating small routine changes like tongue scraping or dry brushing too. They're simple but effective and a nice everyday self-care practice.
Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect – it's about balance, not rigidity. So explore, give yourself some space to learn and enjoy the journey into this ancient, transformative way of living!
