Hello Aiswarya, managing a persistent ringworm infection requires a comprehensive approach that combines dietary changes, herbal remedies, and lifestyle adjustments to eliminate the fungal infection and soothe the associated symptoms like itching and redness. Ringworm, or tinea, is a fungal skin infection that can be stubborn, and while topical antifungal treatments like clotrimazole, itraconazole, and terbinafine are commonly used, a holistic approach can further aid in recovery.

Start by maintaining proper hygiene in the affected area, keeping it clean and dry, as moisture can promote fungal growth. Incorporating natural antifungal herbs into your regimen can be highly beneficial. Neem (Azadirachta indica) is well-known for its antifungal properties. You can prepare a neem leaf decoction and use it as a wash for the affected area, or apply neem oil topically to help soothe irritation and combat the infection. Additionally, Tulsi (Holy Basil) has antifungal properties; applying a paste made from fresh tulsi leaves can help in reducing itching and redness.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is another potent herb that possesses antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. You can create a paste with turmeric powder mixed with a little water or coconut oil and apply it to the affected area to help reduce inflammation and promote healing. Coconut oil itself is also an excellent natural remedy; it has antimicrobial properties and can help soothe the skin while providing moisture.

In terms of dietary adjustments, include foods rich in antioxidants and vitamins to boost your immune system, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Reducing sugar and refined carbohydrates can also help, as these can feed fungal infections.

Additionally, consider incorporating stress-reducing practices such as yoga and meditation into your daily routine, as stress can negatively impact your immune response.

I get where you’re coming from. Those itchy red patches are no joke, and it seems like you’ve had a go with those antifungal ointments which didn’t quite cut it, huh? Let’s dive right into an Ayurvedic approach, shall we?

Ringworm, or Dadru in Ayurveda, is often due to Kapha and Pitta imbalances. So, soothing that heat and kerbing that moistness can be the key. Here’s a practical direction you could take:

First thing in the morning, how about applying a paste of neem leaves? Neem is great for its antifungal properties and can be soothing too. Crush some fresh leaves into a paste, add a pinch of turmeric and smear it on the affected area. Leave it for 20-30 mins before rinsing off gently.

For diets, keep it simple. Stick to light and warm meals—think moong dal, kichdi with a bit of ghee. Avoid things that aggravate Kapha and Pitta, so skip the oily, fried, and spicy food. Maybe lay off the citrus fruits for a bit? Drink warm water, possibly with a slice of ginger.

Try a herbal mix like Triphala powder—it’s excellent for detoxing. You can take around half a teaspoon with warm water before bedtime. It’ll gently support your gut health and balance with its Tridoshic goodness.

Make a routine of drying out the area completely after showers, and wear loose, airy clothes. Cotton is your friend here.

If this condition lingers beyond a few weeks or gets worse, seeing a dermatologist would be wise—you might need an internal antifungal. Ayurveda’s great, but certain cases just need that extra medical intervention at times.

Stick to a calming routine, too. Maybe some meditation or yoga to ease that stress which might just be exacerbating the itch?

Be sure to test any remedy on a small patch of skin first to make sure there is no irritation. Let me know how it goes or if you need more help! Stay patient and take it step by step.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
