Doctors' responses

For your 11-year-old daughter experiencing acne on her cheeks, forehead, and back of the neck, along with thinning hair, low immunity, and fatigue, it is essential to address the underlying imbalances in Pitta dosha and overall health. I recommend administering Triphala Churna (1 teaspoon at night) to aid digestion and detoxification, which can improve skin health. Apply a pack of coriander powder over the affected area. Incorporate Neem in her regimen, either as capsules or powder, for its blood-purifying and antibacterial properties, effective against acne. A balanced diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, particularly those high in Vitamin C, should be emphasized, while avoiding spicy, oily, and processed foods. Encourage regular physical activity and adequate hydration to support her overall vitality. For skin care, a natural mask of gram flour mixed with water can be applied to cleanse and soothe the skin. Regular consultation with a pediatric Ayurvedic practitioner will ensure her treatment is tailored to her specific needs.

Sounds like your daughter is dealing with quite a few things at once, doesn’t it? Lets break it down a bit. Pimples especially at a young age can hint towards some underlying issues, a bit complex than just teen hormones, you know? Her energy being low, thinning hair - these might be little signals that her body’s trying to shout out; something’s not quite right.

In Ayurveda, these signs together often point towards an imbalance of Pitta and Kapha doshas. Too much heat and maybe some extra dampness. Diet here plays a huge role. You might wanna start by looking at what she’s eating. Try to reduce spicy, oily, junky foods, and instead lean towards cooling stuff like cucumbers, melons, and maybe a bit of aloe vera juice (not too much check if she’s not getting stomach upsets).

Her digestion, the ‘agni’ or the fire, it needs to be burning just right, neither too hot nor too damped. You can try some trikatu churna, a classical mix of three spices but keep it light, don’t overdo it. Just a pinch with honey after lunch might work as an encouragement for digestion. But watch her reaction to it, everyone’s different.

For her immunity being a bit off, consider some Chyawanprash, it’s like this classic, yummy herbal jam, and it does magic with building immunity, though it might be a bit heavy for her in large amounts, a teaspoon a day is often enough.

Topically, you might gently apply neem paste on the affected areas of the skin but make sure to do a patch test first – neem’s strong on the skin sometimes. Hair-wise, Brahmi oil can be massaged on her scalp just before bedtime, calming and nourishing you know.

Lifestyle, a little morning walk in the sun, gentle easy, helps maintain Vitamin D too. Encourage her to take little breaks in between study or screen time, if possible to help with overstimulation. Deep breaths can help balance energies.

Be sure to stay connected with her pediatric doctor too, especially if her tiredness grows. It’s always good to have a medical side of things checked out just to be safe.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
