Frequent urination and a sudden, uncontrollable urge to urinate may indicate a condition related to Mutrakrichra (difficulty in urination) or Mutraghata (urinary disorders) in Ayurveda, often linked to Vata and Pitta imbalances.
For managing this condition, Chandraprabha Vati (2 tablets twice daily) is effective in supporting urinary tract health and reducing urgency. Punarnava tablets or Punarnavasava (10-15 ml twice daily) can help reduce inflammation and improve kidney function. Gokshuradi Guggulu is also beneficial in strengthening the urinary system and calming the bladder.
In addition, ensure proper hydration with warm water, and avoid diuretics like caffeine and alcohol. Consuming Barley water and herbal teas such as Coriander seed tea can soothe the urinary tract. Regular intake of Amla juice and Coconut water can also support urinary health. It's essential to maintain a Pitta-pacifying diet and consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner for a tailored treatment plan.

At 55 years old, experiencing frequent urination and sudden urges that are difficult to control can be distressing and may indicate an underlying urinary tract issue, possibly related to the bladder or prostate health. In Ayurveda, this condition may be attributed to an imbalance in the Vata and Pitta doshas, which can disrupt normal urinary function.
To address this issue, dietary and lifestyle changes, along with Ayurvedic remedies, can help restore balance and improve urinary health.
Dietary Modifications: Focus on a diet that is soothing and hydrating. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables that have a high water content, such as cucumbers, watermelon, and leafy greens. Avoid excessive consumption of spicy foods, caffeine, and alcohol, as these can irritate the bladder and worsen symptoms. Including barley and whole grains in your diet can help promote overall urinary health.
Herbal Remedies: Several Ayurvedic herbs may be beneficial for managing frequent urination. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) is known for its diuretic properties and can help strengthen the bladder and urinary tract. Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) is another excellent herb that supports kidney and urinary health while helping to reduce excess fluid retention. Drinking Dandelion tea may also provide relief, as it can support kidney function and aid in reducing urinary frequency.
Lifestyle Changes: Establishing a regular routine for urination can help train the bladder and reduce urgency. Practicing pelvic floor exercises, such as Kegel exercises, can strengthen the muscles that support the bladder and improve control over urination. Regular physical activity, such as walking or yoga, can enhance overall health and support urinary function.
Mindful Practices: Stress can exacerbate urinary issues, so incorporating stress-reducing practices like meditation or mindfulness can be beneficial. Techniques such as deep breathing can also help calm the mind and body, potentially reducing the frequency of sudden urges.
It's crucial to consult with a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying medical conditions, such as urinary tract infections, bladder inflammation, or prostate issues, especially if these symptoms persist.
