hello, i hope your consultant has adequately informed you regarding your current condition. some structural disturbance has occured in your spinal canal and these needs to be corrected as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the nerve roots. you need to meet with a neurosurgeon and listen to his advise on surgery. And you have to prepare your mind that your symptoms will not bounce back soon after the surgery because your nerves has sustained considerable damage throughout this period and nerve healing and recovery is a slow process. this is the stage ayurveda can act on. there is a physical fragment that is compressing your spinal cord and unless it is corrected no amount of external manuvering is going to be much help. but you can apply lepas externally for temporary relief. once your structural issues are resolved you can stress more on ayurvedic treatments to correct the functional aspects and improve pain and nerve healing. also stay away from chiropractise traction etc as these will not suit your condition. also please start the medication mentioned to sooth your nerves temporarily and help with pain. these are herbal formulations that can strengthen your nerves. follow a light diet and mild exercises.
From what you have explained this is a long standing vata condition which has now become deeper with nerve compression and tissue depletion the pain coming and going earlier and now turning into numbness clearly shows progression and your MRI also supports this with disc protrusion canal narrowing and pressure on nerve roots At this stage the aim is not only pain relief but reducing pressure on nerves improving circulation and slowly nourishing the affected tissues so that sensation and strength can return as much as possible You should strictly avoid forward bending sudden twisting long sitting and lifting weight use a firm bed and keep your lower back supported in daily activities For internal support take ashwagandhadi lehyam one teaspoon twice daily after food yogaraja guggulu one tablet twice daily after food maharasnadi kashayam 15 ml with equal warm water twice daily and sahacharadi kashayam 15 ml with equal warm water in the morning these help in reducing inflammation pain and nerve irritation For better nerve strength and numbness ksheerabala 101 capsules one capsule twice daily after food will be helpful Externally apply dhanwantharam tailam or kottamchukkadi tailam over lower back and affected leg followed by gentle heat daily if possible take a course of kati basti and patra pinda sweda these therapies help in reducing stiffness improving blood flow and relieving pressure on nerves Diet should be warm soft and easy to digest include ghee garlic ginger soups and avoid dry cold refrigerated and heavy food as they increase vata and slow recovery Do not remain completely inactive once pain reduces slightly start gentle walking and mild guided exercises because movement helps in recovery but avoid strain Improvement in such conditions is gradual if pain reduces and even slight return of sensation happens it is a positive sign If you notice increasing numbness weakness in leg or any change in bladder or bowel control then do not delay medical review as that needs immediate attention
This is a severe spinal condition with nerve compression, and the loss of sensation in the leg is an important warning sign. In such cases, Ayurveda can support, but you should not delay neurosurgical consultation as already advised in your MRI. Do not ignore this stage. Immediate precautions: Avoid prolonged sitting, bending, lifting weights Use firm mattress, proper back support Short walks are okay, but avoid strain At home: Warm oil application (Mahanarayan oil) on lower back + gentle hot fomentation Mild stretching only if it does not increase pain Yograj Guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily after food Mahavat Vidhwansan Ras – 1 tablet twice daily after food Dashmool kwath – 15 ml with equal water twice daily These help reduce inflammation, nerve irritation, and pain, but results take time. If pain increases, or weakness/numbness spreads, or bladder/bowel control changes — seek immediate medical care Combination approach (Ayurveda + specialist care) is best in your case. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
I’m going to be direct this is not a routine sciatica flare where only medicines or home remedies will be enough. Your MRI shows nerve root compression + canal stenosis + a sequestered disc fragment, and you already have sensory loss and weakness. The most important red flag in your case numbness in front of leg (L4 distribution) weakness, severe pain This means nerve is already affected, not just irritated. Ayurveda Medicine can help you reduce the inflammation but do NOT delay neurosurgery review, Dashmoola kwath 20 ML with equal water Ekangaveer rasa 2 tab bd vata vidwansan rasa 2 tab bd After neurosurgeon clearance you can go with panchakarma therapies like yoga basti which can help in regeneration
Hello, First your MRI is not describin simple “routine sciatica”. It describes Multilevel nerve compression especially -L3-L4= a sequestered fragment (a piece of disc has broken off) pressing the left L4 nerve root, plus moderate severe spinal canal stenosis with cauda equina nerve root bunching -L4-L5= disc protrusion/extrusion affecting L5 nerve roots -L5-S1= foraminal narrowing affecting exiting L5 roots Your left shin/front of leg numbness (between knee and toes) fits possible L5/L4 nerve involvemet.weakness + loss of sensation is more concerning than pain alone This is not just “Vata pain” or muscular sciatica. There appears to be -mechanical compression -inflammation around nerve roots -canal crowding/stenosis -chronic degeneration Treatment goals Short term for 2-12 weeks -reduce nerve irritation -reduce radiating pain -prevent worsening weakness -improve sitting tolerance -reduce spasm and sitffness Long term -protect disc -reduce inflammation -prevet flare cycles -decide wheather surgery is needed or avoidable Internal support 1) Sahacharadi kwatha= 15ml with warm water twice daily after meals =best for radiating pain, lower limb stiffness, low back pain 2) Ksheerbala 101 capsules= 1 cap twice daily after meals =nourishing support conceptually 3) Yogaraj guggulu= 2 tabs twice daily after meals =for chronic stiffness/degenerative patterns External more important in your case than internal 1) Sahacharadi taila -warm oil application gentle not aggressive deep massage over acute inflamed nerve =reduce guarding/spasm, can improve local comfort, can support mobility Avoid hard pressure or forceful massage over an acutely irritated disc problem Avoid -forceful spinal adjustments -bone setting -heavy traction -aggressive forward bend yoga -deep tissue pounding massage Yoga -short gentle walking frequent , not long -supported makarasana -very gentle Mckenzie type prone lying if extension reduces leg pain- stop if worse -gentle pelvic tilts Avoid for now -toe touching -deep hamstring stretches -full forward bends -twisting postures -strong surya namaskar -long seated meditation on floor Pranayam -anulom vilom -diaphragmatic breathing -bhramari Avoid forceful kapalbhati/bhastrika during acute pain Diet -warm cooked meals -ginger if tolerated -turmeric in food -mung soup -light easy to digest meals -good hydration Reduce or avoid -very dry foods -excess cold foods -heavy fried meals -excess alcohol -smoking Home measures -heat pack 15-20 mins if soothing -lumbar support only for short sitting, not constant dependence -change position every 20-30 minutes -no prolonged sitting -if numb areachanges, map it daily is it shrinking or spreading? Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you
This is not just “Vata imbalance” or routine sciatica—there is structural nerve compression that Ayurveda alone cannot remove. That said, Ayurveda can be used as supportive therapy (for pain relief, inflammation, recovery), alongside neurosurgical care is urgently advised. In Ayurveda, your condition aligns with: Gridhrasi (sciatica) Vata aggravation with Avarana (obstruction) Trayodashang Guggulu 2 tablets, twice daily Specifically indicated for nerve compression + limb weakness** with** Dashmool Kwath (decoction) 15–20 ml with warm water, twice daily Anti-inflammatory, reduces nerve irritation. Brihat Vata Chintamani Ras Dose: 1 tablet once or twice daily with honey/ghee. Ashwagandha 500 mg capsule, twice daily with milk Nerve support, reduces weakness. Practical daily routine Morning: Warm water + light stretching (only if pain allows) Medicines Day: Avoid long sitting (break every 20–30 min) Evening: Oil application (Mahanarayan taila) Gentle heat Night: Firm mattress, side sleeping with pillow between knees.
