What Is the Most Effective Ayurvedic Medicine for Heartburn and Acidity? - #11448

Anonymously

I suffer from heartburn almost every day, no matter what I eat. Sometimes even simple meals like rice and dal trigger acidity. The burning sensation in my chest is getting worse, and I don’t want to rely on antacids forever. That’s why I am looking for the most effective Ayurvedic medicine for heartburn that can provide long-term relief. I have tried several home remedies like drinking cold milk, eating fennel seeds, and sipping ginger tea, but the relief is temporary. I heard that Avipattikar Churna is very effective for acidity, but I don’t know how to take it. Has anyone tried it? How long does it take to work? I have also read about Amla juice for digestion, but does it help with chronic acidity? I want something that doesn’t just neutralize stomach acid but actually fixes the root cause. Diet is another concern. Are there foods I should completely avoid? Should I eat at specific times to prevent acidity? Please share any Ayurvedic remedies that have worked for you.

Avipattikar Churna is indeed a well-known Ayurvedic remedy for heartburn and acidity, and it is often recommended to balance stomach acid. It works by calming excess Pitta (the Ayurvedic dosha linked to heat and acidity) and improving digestion. Typically, it is taken in a dose of 1-2 teaspoons after meals, mixed with warm water or honey, but it’s best to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized advice. The relief may take a few days to a week depending on the severity of your condition. Amla juice can also be beneficial for acidity, as it has a cooling effect and helps in regulating digestion over time. Unlike antacids that only provide temporary relief, Amla works more on balancing stomach acid production. In terms of diet, avoiding spicy, oily, and fried foods, as well as citrus fruits and caffeinated beverages, is often advised. Eating smaller, more frequent meals, and ensuring you don't lie down immediately after eating, can also help. Sipping warm water throughout the day and including soothing herbs like fennel, cumin, and coriander in your meals can further support digestion and reduce acidity. Additionally, practices like mindfulness around eating and stress reduction techniques (such as yoga or pranayama) can address the root cause of heartburn, especially if stress or irregular eating habits are contributing to the issue.
