Is Ayurvedic Treatment Effective for Chronic Knee Pain? Need Advice on Long-Term Relief - #1319

Hudson

For the past year, I’ve been dealing with persistent knee pain, especially when climbing stairs or standing for long periods. The pain started as mild discomfort but has progressively gotten worse. I’ve tried physiotherapy, and while it helps temporarily, the pain always comes back. My X-rays show mild degeneration, and I want to avoid steroid injections or surgery if possible. I’ve been reading about Ayurvedic treatments for knee pain, like Janu Basti and herbal oils such as Mahanarayan oil. Has anyone tried these therapies? Did they help with reducing inflammation and improving mobility? I’m also curious if specific herbs like Shallaki or Guggul can offer lasting relief. Any advice on how to combine these treatments with diet changes or exercise would be appreciated.

If you’re dealing with persistent knee pain and mild degeneration, Ayurvedic treatments like **Janu Basti, Pichu, Lepam etc and herbal oils such as **Mahanarayan oil** can offer natural relief by targeting inflammation and nourishing the joint. Janu Basti involves applying warm medicated oil directly to the knee, which helps ease stiffness and enhance mobility. Regular massages with Mahanarayan oil, Kottamchukadi oil combined with gentle heat application, can further alleviate pain. Herbal supplements like **Shallaki** (Boswellia) and **Guggul** provide anti-inflammatory benefits and may help slow joint degeneration. Pairing these therapies with a diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods (like turmeric, ginger, and omega-3 sources) and practicing low-impact exercises such as swimming or yoga can support long-term knee health. Consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to tailor these treatments to your needs and ensure safe integration with any existing medical care.

Ayurveda can definitely play a role in managing chronic knee pain, and you're on the right track with your interest in treatments like Janu Basti and herbal remedies. Janu Basti, where warm medicated oil is pooled around the knee, can help nourish joint tissues, improve lubrication and reduce pain. It often uses oils like Mahanarayan oil, known traditionally for its anti-inflammatory properties. Doing this regularly, maybe about twice a week, could provide some relief, but don't expect overnight miracles. It might take a few weeks to feel any noticeable difference. Herbs like Shallaki (Boswellia) and Guggul have been used for their anti-inflammatory properties and can be quite effective in reducing knee pain and inflammation when taken consistently. With Shallaki tablets, you might try taking them as per an ayurvedic practitioner's guidance, while Guggul can further help in detoxifying and supporting joint health. But listen, these are not substitutes for medical interventions if your condition worsens. Diet plays a big role too. Try to include anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric—golden milk in the evening with pinch of black pepper can be great. Steer clear of fried and overly processed foods to reduce overall joint inflammation. Incorporating gentle, joint-friendly exercises like swimming or cycling can maintain mobility without putting too much stress on the knees. Remember though, Ayurvedic treatments can be best utilized as a complementary approach. Harsh degeneration might need more immediate intervention if pain escalates. Please, keep your physician in the loop about any new treatment you try, especially if you’re considering supplements or significant dietary changes. Don't forget about mindfulness too; stress can exacerbate pain perception, so practices like meditation might also benefit your overall treatment plan. Keep experimenting, see what fits – but always prioritize safety!
