Dear Preethi,

Your symptoms of chest pain, throat pain, and difficulty swallowing suggest severe GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). Since you’re still in pain despite taking Omez and Bastin-M, here are some additional suggestions to help relieve your discomfort:

Diet & Lifestyle Changes: 1. Avoid trigger foods – Spicy, oily, acidic, and caffeinated foods (coffee, tea, carbonated drinks) can worsen reflux. 2. Eat small, frequent meals – Large meals increase acid reflux. 3. Don’t lie down immediately after eating – Wait at least 2-3 hours before sleeping. 4. Sleep with your head elevated – Use a pillow to keep your head slightly raised. 5. Stay hydrated – Sip warm water frequently, but avoid drinking large amounts at once. 6. Reduce stress – Practice deep breathing, yoga, or meditation. 1. Amla (Indian Gooseberry) – Take 1 tsp amla juice with honey twice a day to soothe the throat. 2. Licorice (Mulethi) tea – Helps coat the throat and reduce acidity. Boil licorice root in water and drink it warm. 3. Coriander water – Soak 1 tsp coriander seeds overnight in water and drink in the morning. 4. Aloe vera juice – Drink 1tbsp aloe vera juice before meals to reduce acidity. 5. Jeera (cumin) water – Boil 1 tsp cumin in water and sip after meals for digestion.

Yeah, dealing with throat pain, especially when it’s linked with GERD, can be real tough. First thing, you’ve gotta address the root cause, which is your acid reflux. You’ve been on those meds, but maybe we need a few more steps from an Ayurvedic perspective to help soothe things along.

In Ayurveda, GERD is often related to an imbalance in Pitta dosha, which governs digestion and metabolism. One practical step is tweaking your diet a bit. Prefer cooling, soothing foods. Maybe rice, cooked veggies like zucchini, or squash, stay clear of spicy, fried stuff, they’re like fuel for Pitta fire! And have your meals at regular times—big help there.

It’s best to space out meals, like small portions and avoid eating late at night. And try to sit upright after you eat—kick back a bit with your back supported. Helps reduce the acid rush up your esophagus.

Consume herbal teas, something soothing like licorice root or chamomile tea. Sipping coconut water or aloe juice is also nice, provides some cooling relief. Avoid coffee and alcohol—they’re just troublemakers when it comes to GERD.

For instant throat relief, consider warm water gargles with a bit of salt; it can provide some ease. For added benefit, dissolve a pinch of turmeric in milk and sip it slowly at night.

When sleeping, elevation works wonders. Prop up your head with an extra pillow! Make sure you listen to your bod—if nothing seems to help, go see a doc again. Don’t play around when the pain’s this bad.

As this lingers around, if anything worsens or feels scary, please don’t wait—go back to your doc or seek urgent care. Safety first, always. Take care, focus on gentle adjustments, and check back if you need more advice.
