Stomach inflammation infection - #20528
Zee
“I had stomach inflammation, and the doctor prescribed Nexium for three months and Flagyl for 14 days. I took both medicines, and before that, I used to take them. My condition improved for a few days, but then I started experiencing dizziness, nausea, cold, headaches, and a lot of sleepiness. Now, I still get nausea at any time during the day. I also cannot tolerate any bad or even good smells. What could be the reason for this? What is the solution?”

I’m not able to stop my nausea — it happens every day. Ginger and lemon juice give temporary relief, but then it starts again. What should I do?

Mix both of them and take one teaspoon in the morning and evening with water.
Boil two big cardamom pods in one glass of water and when the
resultant water remains half a glass, filter and add rock salt. Take 3-4 teaspoons at every 2 hours interval, it gives immediate relief.

It sounds like you're dealing with some rather uncomfortable symptoms following your treatment. In Ayurveda, such reactions, particularly post medication, could be an indication of an imbalance in your doshas, especially Vata and Pitta. This could lead to a weakened agni or digestive fire, and disturbed prana vayu, which then could cause nausea, dizziness, and changes in sensory perception.
For nausea and dizziness, one should first look at dietary modifications that pacify Vata and Pitta. Incorporating warm, cooked foods over raw or cold items is advisable. Opt for kitchari—a dish made from rice and mung dal—which is easy on your stomach, nourishing, and balancing for all doshas.
Consider drinking ginger tea, as ginger can soothe nausea and aid digestion. Simply boil a few slices of fresh ginger in water for about 10-15 minutes. Add a teaspoon of honey after it cools slightly if desired. This remedy should be taken once or twice a day to help settle your stomach.
Additionally, keeping hydrated is key, but it's important to sip on warm water throughout the day. Avoid cold water or drinks as they can disturb agni further. You might also find it beneficial to avoid any heavy meals, fried foods, and stimulants like caffeine, which might aggravate your symptoms.
In terms of lifestyle, maintaining a regular routine will aid Vata, and gentle yoga or deep breathing exercises can be restoring to the system. Pranayama practices, like Nadi Shodhana, may help in calming the mind and balance prana vayu, aiding your nausea.
As for smells, this heightened sensitivity might be tied to your prana imbalance. Keep your environment soothing, and perhaps employ calming scents like lavender or sandalwood to counteract any unpleasant olfactory experiences.
If these symptoms persist or worsen, it’s imperative you follow up with your healthcare provider. Sometimes, prescription medicines may cause these elective side effects, and a professional opinion would help ensure that there's not other underlying issues.
