Based on what you've shared, it seems that the pain you're experiencing could be related to Vata imbalance, particularly Apana Vayu, which tends to create issues around the back and neck when aggravated. Let's try to address this with Ayurveda. First and foremost, it's important to focus on your posture, especially given the pain increases when lying down. Ensuring you have a supportive mattress and pillow can help align the spine properly. When lying down, try to boost your upper back with a small cushion or towel roll. Diet is also crucial. Considering that Vata imbalances might be at play, you should aim to consume warm, nourishing foods like soups, stews, and kitchari. Avoid cold, dry, and raw foods as they can aggravate Vata. Instead, focus on cooked, easily digestible meals, with warming spices like ginger and turmeric which helps in reducing inflammation. Incorporating certain yoga poses like the Cat-Cow stretch and Balasana (Child's Pose) can be effective in releasing tension in the back. When practicing yoga, be mindful of smooth, gentle movements rather than anything too intense. You might consider an ayurvedic massage with warm sesame oil, which can help relax muscles and ease pain. Also, take regular breaks from sitting or lying in one position for long periods, to prevent stiffness. From a herbal perspective, applying a paste of Ashwagandha or Guggulu to the affected area may help. These herbs are known for anti-inflammatory properties, but use them with caution and ideally after consulting with a qualified practitioner. Finally, if pain persists or worsens, it's crucial to seek professional care. There could be underlying issues that need further exploration. Prioritize your health and ensure to follow up with your doctor for any unresolved concerns.
