Hair fall in type 2 diabetes can often be linked to dosha imbalances, especially Vata and Pitta, exacerbated by blood sugar fluctuations. In Ayurveda, hair health ties closely to, pitta dosha and nutritional factors, and your diabetes can further complicate this. The dryness and stickiness you describe may be a result of these imbalances and a few changes might help manage your condition. To begin with, you might want to consider switching your shampoo to a more herbal-based option, like a shikakai or areetha shampoo, which are known for being gentle on hair and reducing chemical exposure. You mentioned dryness post-shampoo, if that's the case, incorporating a pre-wash hot oil treatment with coconut or sesame oil could help. Warm the oil gently, massage it onto your scalp, and leave it for about 30-60 minutes before washing it off, this nourishes the hair and scalp. Regarding diet, foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as flaxseeds or fish, can help support both diabetes management and hair health, as they provide essential nourishment. Ensure a balanced intake of proteins from legumes and dietary fibers, while keeping sugars and refined carbs in check to support better blood sugar control. Engage in regular physical activities like walking or yoga, which could support your metabolic processes and potentially improve the overall condition, including hair health. Try to manage stress, which can increase Pitta, through meditation or pranayama practices like Anulom Vilom. As for controlling diabetes, follow your physician's advice closely, checking your blood sugar levels regularly. Rethinking dietary patterns and meal timing – in alignment with Ayurvedic dinacharya (daily routine) – may also be beneficial. A consistent routine including adequate hydration helps keep the skin and hair moisturized from the inside. If the hair condition remains persistent or worsens, please consult with a healthcare professional to rule out other nutrient deficiencies. Do prioritize regular visits to your diabetologist for monitoring and adjusting your diabetic management plan.
