Strengthening of my muscles, inflammation, lymphedema, digestive issues - #28009
Myasthenia gravisi’ve had it for 25 years. I’ve kept it under control, but as I get older, I have more crisis have never been hospitalized forward. I try to keep up with information about it to control it. I’m interested in finding more natural ways. Also, I realize this condition is an autoimmune condition. Probably starting from my gut. As she went on, I’ve also developed lymphedema. I keep that under control, but I still have it.

To address myasthenia gravis naturally within the scope of Ayurveda, it’s essential to consider the balance of doshas, particularly focusing on Vata and Pitta, which may influence autoimmune conditions and neuromuscular function. The digestive system, or Agni, plays a crucial role in overall immunity and bodily strength. To support this, consider beginning with dietary adjustments to balance these doshas.
Include easily digestible foods in your diet such as well-cooked whole grains (like rice and quinoa), and steamed vegetables. Incorporate good fats like ghee, which helps to nourish and stabilize the nervous system. Turmeric and ginger can be included for their anti-inflammatory properties and to support digestion. Avoid processed foods, excessive spicy, sour, or acidic food to maintain balance.
For lymphedema management, gentle lymphatic drainage exercises may promote circulation. Ayurveda recommends Abhyanga, a daily warm oil massage, to stimulate lymph flow and can help reduce swelling. Use sesame or mustard oil for Vata conditions like dryness or weakness.
Yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) can support general wellbeing and muscle tone. Practices like Anulom Vilom and Nadi Shodhana calm the nervous system. Engage in restorative yoga, avoiding strenuous activity that might exascerbate fatigue.
Consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner before adopting herbs such as Ashwagandha or Brahmi, which might support energy levels and muscle function. They can guide personalized herbal combinations aligned with your constitution.
Be mindful of any worsening symptoms, and maintain communication with your healthcare provider, especially as myasthenia gravis can require immediate medical intervention at times. Balance natural approaches with professional guidance for comprehensive care.
Myasthenia gravis, as an autoimmune neuromuscular disease, can truly be challenging to manage. In Ayurveda and Siddha tradition, a comprehensive understanding of your doshas and tailoring recommendations might uncover opportunities for balance. Often, the underlying imbalance—whether in doshas or digestive fire (Agni)—could be contributing to your symptoms. While not a replacement for medical treatment, these approaches could offer supportive management.
Concentrating on strengthening your digestive fire is crucial because digestion is closely linked to immunity boost, a pertinent factor for autoimmune conditions. Begin by incorporating digestive spices like ginger, turmeric, and cumin into your daily meals. Ginger tea with a pinch of black pepper before meals can support digestion and improve circulation.
For muscle strength and inflammation, Abhyanga or self-massage with warm sesame oil may help in maintaining muscle tone while also relieving stress and tension. Focus on joints and limb muscles, as regular massage might also aid in stimulating lymphatic circulation, which could complement your lymphedema management.
Including Triphala—a blend of three fruits—in your routine could aid in detoxifying and boosting overall digestion. Take a half teaspoon in warm water before bed, but be observant for any sensitivities.
For lymphedema, gentle yoga postures and pranayama focusing on deep breathing can enhance lymph flow and offer relaxation. Daily practice like Supta Baddha Konasana or supported legs-up-the-wall can be beneficial.
It’s critical to continue all prescribed treatments unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise. Collaboration with your medical teams ensures that any supplementary methods harmonize with your existing care without interfering with it. Always monitor any changes and adjust as required based on your specific condition and medical guidance.
