Managing hot flushes and sweats during menopause can be challenging, especially when remedies seem to lose their effect over time. According to traditional Ayurvedic wisdom, menopause is a phase dominated by Vata dosha, with some Pitta influence, leading to symptoms such as hot flushes. Here are some natural remedies and lifestyle changes that might help regulate your symptoms more consistently.
Focus on a Pitta-pacifying diet to help reduce the intensity of heat symptoms. Include cooling foods like cucumber, watermelon, and leafy greens. Avoid spicy and acidic foods, as well as caffeine, alcohol, and processed foods, which can aggravate hot flashes.
Staying hydrating is crucial. Drink plenty of water, especially coconut water or water infused with herbs like mint, as it cools the body naturally. Also consider having Coriander seed water; soak 1 tsp of seeds in water overnight, and drink it first thing in the morning.
Herbs like Ashwagandha can help manage stress and balance Vata, which might contribute to hormonal balance and reducing hot flashes. Try taking it in powder or capsule form under guidance.
Consume flaxseeds, which are a source of phytoestrogens that help balance hormones. Have a tablespoon daily, ground, with your food or in water.
Practice calming activities like yoga, pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation to calm Vata and reduce stress, further helping with your symptoms. Sitali pranayama, a cooling breathing technique, can be especially useful during a hot flash.
Regularizing your routine to maintain Vata balance is important. Try eating meals at the same time every day and aim for a consistent sleep schedule.
Finally, avoid over-supplementation. Allow time for natural response of your body to adjustments. If no improvement, consider consulting a Ayurveda practitioner to reassess your doshas and adjust the treatment accordingly.
