Hairfall and hair thinning can often be linked to imbalances in your doshas, especially Vata. You’ve mentioned that your hair gets drier and thinner, which can be signs of aggravated Vata dosha. Let’s tackle this using Ayurveda principles.
First, focus on your diet. Since nourished hair reflects internal health, consider increasing intake of healthy fats like ghee and sesame oil—consume about a teaspoon of ghee with meals to moisturize and nourish tissues. Also, including protein-rich foods is crucial, such as dal (lentils), paneer (cottage cheese), nuts, and seeds, which strengthen hair roots. Hydration is essential—drink warm water infused with a slice of ginger and a few basil leaves once daily to keep digestion and hydration in check.
Hair massages can greatly help with your current condition. Warm sesame oil or coconut oil infused with herbs like Brahmi or Bhringraj—massage your scalp twice a week gently. Leave it on for an hour and wash with a mild, herbal shampoo. Shampoo made with natural ingredients like shikakai or reetha can avoid drying your hair further. Try a hair mask with fenugreek and aloe vera gel once a week, which can hydrate and fortify hair.
Since monsoon is tricky for hair health, ensure your scalp stays dry, as moisture promotes fungal growth. After getting wet in rain, dry your hair properly using a soft towel, avoid vigorous rubbing.
Lifestyle is just as important: maintain a regular sleep schedule, reduce stress through calming practices such as yoga or meditation. Ashwagandha is recommended to manage stress levels—take it with warm milk before bed. Ayurvedic supplements like Triphala can improve digestion and nutrient absorption, which impacts hair health beneficially.
Lastly, If the problem persists or further intensifies, considering consulting a healthcare professional, as underlying conditions might be a factor too.
