Start by addressing your mom’s digestive fire, or agni, as this is crucial in Ayurveda to enhance appetite and assimilation of nutrients. Consider starting the day with a glass of warm water mixed with a pinch of ginger powder and a few drops of lemon, which helps in stimulating the digestive fire. Encourage her to eat small but frequent meals, ensuring she has something every 2-3 hours to keep her metabolism active.

For her meals, incorporate appetizing herbs like black pepper, cumin, and turmeric, which can help stimulate her appetite. Focus on including all six tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent) in her diet to balance her doshas. Ensure proteins such as lentils or mung beans and healthy fats like ghee or sesame oil are included; these aid in nourishing the dhatus and improving strength.

Constipation can be addressed using Triphala - a renowned Ayurvedic formulation. Have her take 1 teaspoon mixed in warm water before bed. Triphala helps in cleansing the digestive tract and promotes regular bowel movements. Healthy digestion is the key to better nutrient absorption and eventually gaining weight.

Incorporate light exercises like walking or yoga to improve blood circulation and overall health vitality. It’s important – however – that these activities are gentle, as intense exercises can further deplete her energy reserves.

Hydration plays a big role, so ensure she drink adequate water, especially warm herbal teas (like fennel tea) which soothe the digestive system. Stress can impact appetite, consider meditation or pranayama practices to promote relaxation and boost overall well-being.

Monitor her diet closely, if she doesn’t see improvement or her condition worsens, seeking professional medical advice is crucial to rule out underlying issues.

To address your mom’s reduced appetite and weak health, focusing on balancing her digestive fire (agni) is essential. In Siddha-Ayurveda, imbalanced agni can lead to poor digestion and assimilation, resulting in decreased appetite and nutrient absorption. Here are some practical steps to help improve her condition:

1. Strengthen Agni: Encourage her to drink a small cup of warm water with a pinch of ginger powder and a few drops of lemon juice before meals. This combination can stimulate digestive fire and enhance appetite.

2. Regular Meal Routine: Larger gaps between meals can weaken agni and reduce hunger. Advise her to have three main meals and two snacks daily, spaced evenly. The meals should be warm, freshly cooked, and easy to digest.

3. Constipation Relief: As her constipation is sporadic, addressing this can also help improve her appetite. She may take freshly churned butter milk mixed with a pinch of roasted ajwain powder after lunch. This aids digestion and helps regulate bowel movements.

4. Dietary Recommendations: Introduce ghee into her diet, as it nourishes tissues and supports digestion. A teaspoon of ghee mixed with warm rice can be beneficial. Ensure she’s consuming small quantities of whole grains, legumes, cooked vegetables, and mild spices.

5. Herbal Support recommend Ashwagandha and Shatavari, two adaptogenic herbs known to support strength and appetite. A quarter teaspoon of each can be taken with warm milk before bed.

6. Simple Breathwork: Some gentle pranayama exercises, like Anulom Vilom or alternate nostril breathing, performed in the morning, can invigorate her energy levels and support overall well-being.

If her condition doesn’t improve or there’s further weight loss, consulting a healthcare professional is advisable to rule out any underlying issues requiring immediate attention. Ensuring her safety and well-being should always be a priority.
