Help for Exfoliative Chelitis - #43560

I have exfoliative chelitis for 2 years now. Pls help how to cure..My lips can't use any lip balm, or Vaseline , butter or ghee. I have tried all of them.it can't tolerate any oils. While eating chilies or masala curries my lips have blisters and they Crack all over sometimes they bleed. Only using a station cream settles them for a while. I can't open my mouth for eating food also.

Your lips are extremely sensitive right now, and that’s why even simple things like lip balms, oils, ghee, or spicy food are causing burning, blisters, cracking, and bleeding. This means the inner heat (Pitta) and dryness (Vata) in your body are very high, and digestion is irritated. When this happens, the lips lose their natural healing ability and keep peeling again and again.

The good news is: exfoliative cheilitis can improve with the right internal treatment and very gentle external care, even when you can’t tolerate oils. Healing will be gradual but absolutely possible.

1. Ama Pachana (first 7 days) Amapachana Vati – 2 tablets twice daily after food for 7 days.

2. Internal medicines (from Day 8 onwards – for 6–8 weeks) Guduchi Satva – 1 teaspoon with warm water in the morning. Avipattikar Churna – ½ teaspoon after meals with warm water. Saraswata Churna – 1 teaspoon with warm water at night. Manjishta Ghan Vati – 1 tablet twice daily after food. Yashtimadhu (Licorice) tablets – 1 tablet twice daily.

3. External application (oil-free) Yashtimadhu powder + little boiled cooled water – apply as thin paste 1–2 times/day. Fresh aloe vera gel – apply thin layer for 10 minutes once daily.

4. Diet (very important for healing) Avoid chilli, spicy curries, tomatoes, pickles, vinegar, lemons, oranges. Avoid fried foods, bakery items, chips. Avoid tea/coffee more than once a day. Eat soft, warm meals: dal, rice, moong khichdi, ridge gourd, bottle gourd, cooked vegetables. Drink warm water only. No cold drinks.

5. Investigations To rule out deeper causes: Vitamin B12 Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) Vitamin D Iron profile Thyroid profile Fasting blood sugar

Allergy panel (if symptoms worsen with certain foods) Deficiencies often cause peeling and slow healing of lips.

Your condition is painful and emotionally draining, but it is treatable. You have severe dryness and heat, so oils and balms are too strong for your lips right now. Once internal heat reduces and the lips regain strength, you will slowly tolerate external moisture again. Healing will happen step by step, and you will be able to eat normally again. Exfoliative chelitis means your lips are constantly inflamed,leadig to -repeated peeling - cracks - bleeding -burning -blisters with spicy foods -intolerance to oils or lip balms

This happens when the skin barrier of the lips becomes weak, and the immune system becomes hypersensitive

WHY IT HAPPENS Ayurveda looks at this through three doshas- vata, pitta, kapha Your symptoms indicate:-

PITTA AGGRAVATION Because -burning sensation -blisters after spicy foods -redness, swelling -cannot tolerate heat or oils -bleeds easily Pitta governs hear, inflammation, and metabolism. when aggravated-> it inflames soft tissues like lips

VATA AGGRAVATION Your symptoms :- -dryness -cracking -difficulty opening mouth -peeling Vata dries tissues and makes them fragile

OJAS WEAKNESS Chronic duration (2 years) usually indicates:- -low immunity -high sensitivity -delayed healing -reaction to many products So your condition= pitta + vata imbalance + reduced Ojas

TREATMENT GOALS

SHORT TERM GOALS -reduce burning and inflammation -stop peeling and cracking -strengthen lip barrier -reduce sensitivity to food

MEDIUM TERM GOALS -heal deeper tissues -restore natural moiture -improve digestive and liver function

TREATMENT PLAN

EXTERNAL TREATMENT

1) ALOE VERA GEL (pure, non-fragrance) DOSE= apply thin layer 1-2 times daily =extremely cooling, reduces pitta inflammation, heals racks

2) LICORICE + ROSE WATER COOLING PASTE =licorice powder= 1/2 tsp, rice flour= 1/2tsp. rose water= cough to make consistency Apply for 10-15 min-> wash gently =licorrice heal mucosa, rose water cools pitta, rice flour absorbs heat

3) CUCUMBER JUICE COMPRESS take cotton-> dip in cool cucumber juice-> place on lips 10 min =reduces burning, hydrates without oil, natural pitta pacifier

4) MANJISTHA + ROSE WATER PASTE =anti inflammatory , blood purifier, excellent for pitta condition

AVOID -petroleum jelly -ghee or oils until pitta is reduced -turmeric paste -strong herbal ointments these worsen heat

INTERNAL SUPPORT

1) GUDUCHI GHAN VATI= 2 tabs twice daily after meals for 6 weeks =strong anti inflammatory , reduces pitta heat, boosts immunity

2) AMLA CAPSULE= 1 cap in morning for 12 weeks =natural vitamin c, repairs tissue, strengthens immunity

3) YASHTIMADHU TABLETS= 1 tab twice daily with milk for 4 weeks =soothes mucosa, heals cracks, reduces sensitivity

LIFESTYLE CHANGES -use a humidifier at night -drink water often -keep food moderate in temperature -rest well for healing of Ojas

AVOID -sun exposure (very important) -licking lips -peeling skin -talking excessively during flare ups -hot showers on face -stress and late nights increase pitta and vata

YOGA (cooling) -shavsana -supta baddha konasana -child’s pose -forward bends -gentle stretches

AVOID -hot yoga -intense flow -breathing through mouth

PRANAYAM -Sheetali= extremely cooling for pitta do 5-10 breaths daily -Sheetkari -Nadi sodhana= balances vata and pita, reduces stress related flare ups

HOME REMEDIES -cool rose water dabs= soak cotton-> dab on lips 2-3 times/day -Yashtimadhu paste= licorice + water= apply 5-10 min -Honey only if tolerated= if no burning, apply thin layer for 5 min HOENY heals cracks but may sting in sensitive pitta condition -Tender coconut water rinse= hold in mouth 1 min->spit out, reduces acidity and burning

Your symptoms are treatable, but it requires -cooling of pitta -strengthening of lip barrier -avoiding triggers -nourishing immunity -healing vata dryness -correcting gut/liver imbalance Because oils cause burning for you, we first cool pitta with no oily formulas. After 6-8 weeks, when burning reduces , mild oils (like kumkumadi or cow ghee) may be reintroduced very slowly of tolerated

Consistency is the key- improvement may take 6-12 weeks

Hello, Please start taking the following for 7 days: 1. Tab. Triphala guggulu 1-----0----1 after breakfast and after dinner for 10 days. 2. Mahathikthakam kashayam(vaidyaratnam) 20 mi+80ml of boiled water at 0600AM and at 0600PM for 10 days. 3. Avipathikara churnam 1 tsp at bed time with a cup of warm water for 10 days.

Medicines need to be changed after 10 days as it requires treatment for long time because of the chronicity. Follow up after 10 days. Take care, Kind regards.

✅AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT

✅INTERNAL MEDICINES (Most crucial in your situation)

Introduce these to bring Vata + Pitta under control and to regenerate mucosa from the inside.

1. Avipattikar Churna ½ tsp after lunch + dinner ( Puts out Pitta heat from the inside, acidity, and ulcers in mouth)

2. Yashtimadhu (Licorice) Churna.½ tsp with warm water morning ( Heals the tissue, reduces swelling, and induces natural moistening) (VERY) definite in lip diseases

3. Manjishtadi Kahsay 20 ml twice daily with warm water (Calms the inflamed skin, the burning sensation, dermatitis, and allergic response)

4. Sarivadyasava- 15 ml after lunch & dinner (Blood cooler, reduces blisters and hypersensitivity)

5. Gandhak Rasayan 1 tablet twice a day ( Extremely beneficial for chronic skin diseases, peeling, and fissures)

✅LOCAL CARE(Safe for sensitive lips)

Since you are not able to tolerate oils, these are non-oily, comfortable, and mend the barrier.

1. Honey + Turmeric Micro-Mixture(very mild) i½ tsp honey + a pinch of turmeric Apply a thin layer once a day Retain it for 10–15 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water ( Antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-regenerating)

2. Aloe Vera Pure Gel (ONLY if no reaction) (If possible use fresh gel from the plant, not packaged one) Apply a pea-size amount twice everyday

3. Avarampoo Flower Water (if available) Remove the cap and take cotton swab to dip the liquid ( Extremely refreshing for Pitta type of lips)

Complete avoidance of all oils should be until the inflammation has reduced significantly.

I am an Ayurvedic doc trained mainly in Shalakya Tantra—basically, I work a lot with issues of the eyes, ears, nose, oral cavity, head... all that ENT zone. It’s a really specific branch of Ayurveda, and I’ve kind of grown to appreciate how much it covers. I deal with all kinds of conditions like Netra Abhishyanda (kinda like conjunctivitis), Timira and Kacha (early or full-on cataract), Adhimantha (glaucoma stuff), Karna Srava (ear discharge), Pratishyaya (chronic colds n sinus), Mukhapaka (mouth ulcers), and even dental stuff like Dantaharsha (teeth sensitivity) or Shirashool (headaches & migraines). I use a mix of classic therapies—Tarpana, Nasya, Aschyotana, Karna Purana, even Gandusha and Dhoomapana when it fits. Depends on prakriti, the season, and where the person’s really struggling. Rasayana therapy and internal meds are there too of course but I don’t just throw them in blindly... every plan’s got to make sense to that individual. It’s kind of like detective work half the time. But honestly, my clinical work hasn't been just about Shalakya. I’ve got around two yrs of broader OPD experience where I’ve also handled chronic stuff like diabetes, thyroid issues, arthritis flares, PCOS, IBS-type gut problems, and some hormonal imbalances in women too. I kind of like digging into the layers of a case where stress is playing a role. Or when modern bloodwork says one thing, but the symptoms are telling me something else entirely. I use pathology insights but don’t let reports override what the patient's body is clearly saying. That balance—between classical Ayurvedic drishtis and modern diagnostic tools—is what I’m always aiming for. I also try to explain things to patients in a way they’ll get it. Because unless they’re on board and actually involved, no healing really works long-term, right? It’s not all picture-perfect. Sometimes I still re-read my Samhitas when I'm stuck or double check new case patterns. And sometimes my notes are a mess :) But I do try to keep learning and adapting while still keeping the core of Ayurveda intact.

What I care about most is making sure the treatment is safe, ethical, practical, and honest. No overpromising, no pushing meds that don’t fit. And I’m always reading or discussing sth—old Samhitas or recent journals, depends what the case demands. My goal really is to build a practice where people feel seen & understood, not just “managed.” That's where healing actually begins, right?

That’s where our classical tools come in—Ksharasutra therapy, Agnikarma, and a few other para-surgical techniques we follow from the Samhitas...they’ve been lifesavers honestly. My work here pushes me to keep refining surgical precision while also sticking to the Ayurvedic core. I do rely on modern diagnostics when needed, but I won’t replace the value of a well-done Nadi Pariksha or assessing dosha-vikruti in depth.
