Sinus issues and nasal swelling need proper attention to manage pain and mucus effectively. The key is to balance Kapha dosha, which often leads to excess mucus production when aggravated. Here’s a few steps you can consider.
First, start with Nasya, a traditional practice where medicated oils are administered through the nasal passage. Anu Tailam is a commonly used oil for this. Use 2-3 drops in each nostril daily, preferably in the morning. Lie down with your head tilted back and ensure the oil is slightly warm before use. This will help clear the sinus passages and reduce swelling.
Herbs like Turmeric and Ginger can be useful in reducing inflammation. Both have anti-inflammatory properties that can ease pain and decrease mucus. You can make a tea with these two by boiling a small piece of both in water. Drink this once or twice daily.
Diet is crucial, so avoid Kapha-aggravating foods — reduce intake of dairy and cold foods. Opt for warm, light, and easily digestible meals. Use spices like black pepper and cumin to aid digestion.
Steam inhalation is also effective. Boil water with a few basil leaves or eucalyptus oil, cover your head with a towel, and inhale the steam for 5-10 minutes. This can relieve congestion.
If symptoms persist or worsen, consulting an ENT specialist is important since underlying complications might require immediate medical intervention. Balance and safety should always be prioritized.
