Doctors' responses

Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.

I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.

Freckles and dark spots can be associated with an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, which governs heat and metabolism in the body. When Pitta is aggravated, it can lead to increased pigmentation and sensitivity to the sun, resulting in freckles and dark spots. This is especially common in individuals with fair skin, as the skin is more sensitive to changes in sun exposure.

The fact that you do not use sunscreen and rely on an umbrella suggests that your skin may be exposed to more sun than it can handle, further aggravating Pitta. Sweating is also a Pitta-related function, indicating that your body may be generating more internal heat, contributing to skin sensitivity.

Ayurveda views these symptoms not as isolated skin issues but as signs of an underlying systemic imbalance. Addressing this involves not just topical treatments but also internal balance through diet, lifestyle, and stress management.

To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.

Please answer each question as clearly as possible.

1. How long have you noticed these freckles and dark spots? 2. Do you have any other skin concerns like dryness, oily skin, or acne? 3. What is your daily skincare routine? Do you cleanse, moisturize, or exfoliate? 4. Have you noticed any specific triggers that worsen your freckles, such as certain foods, stress, or times of the day? 5. How is your digestion? Do you experience any issues like acidity or irregular bowel movements? 6. What is your typical diet like, and do you consume spicy or oily foods often? 7. How do you manage stress, and how would you describe your sleep quality?

Your detailed responses will help in creating a personalized Ayurvedic plan to address your skin concerns effectively.

Hello, Freckles and dark spots on your cheeks in your case are most likely due to sun exposure + pitta aggravation + oily skin imbalance. Even if you use an umbrella, UV rays still reflect from surroundings, and without sunscreen the skin keeps producing melanin-> leading to these brown spots In Ayurveda, this condition is understood as Vyanga (facial pigmentation) with pitta + rakta dushti (impurity of blood) -Your skin is oily (kapha) but spots indicate heat inside -Excess heat + sun=> trigger melanin overproduction -sweat + no sunscreen=> continuous stimulation of spots Treatment goals -lighten freckles and dark spots -prevent new pigmentation -balance oily skin -improve natural glow Internal medications 1) Mahamanjisthadi kashaya= 15ml+ equal warm water twice daily before meals for 3 months =best for blood purification, reduces pigmentation and acne marks, controls pitta + rakta imbalance 2) Khadirarishtam= 15ml + equal water after food, twice daily =clears skin toxins, helps oily skin and prevents new spots 3) Arogyavardhini vati= 1 tab twice daily after meals =improves liver function-> directly linked to skin clarity, reduces excess oil and pigmentation External Application 1) Kumkumadi taila= apply 2-3 drops at night -gently massage and leave overnight =best classical oil for brightening + pigmentation, improves complexion over time 2) Eradi keram= use in morning (very little amount) =good for oily skin + mild pigmentation, keeps skin balanced without heaviness 3) Face wash (herbal)= use mild herbal cleanser like -neem based Avoid harsh scrubs (important ) Home remedies (very effective) 1) Massor dal + milk pack thrice weekly -soak massor dal, grind with milk -apply for 15 min =lighten spots + controls oil 2) Sandalwood + rose water -apply daily thin layer =cooling-> reduces pitta-> prevents darkening 3) Aloe vera gel fresh -apply at night =repairs skin + reduces pigmentation slowly Yoga and pranayam -Sheetali= reduces body heat -Anulom Vilom= balances doshas -chandrabhedi = cooling effect Very important because your issue is heat related internally Diet -coconut water daily -cucumber, ash gourd, bottle gourd -amla very important -coriander water Diet is 50 % of your treatment success Avoid -spicy, fried, oily foods -tea,coffee excess -pickles, fermented foods -junk and bakery items Very important You said “I don’t use sunscreen because I sweat” This is the main reason your spots are increasing Solution -use gel based or matte sunscreen (SPF 30-50) -look for sweat resistant or oil free Umbrella alone is Not enough How long will it take? -4-6 weeks= slight improvement -2-3 months= visible lightening -4-6 months= significant clearing Freckles dont disappear overnight, but they fade gradualy Be consistent that is more important Don’t over exfoliate (you already exfoliate-reduce to 1-2 times/week) Follow both internal + external treatment together Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

–Freckles and brown spots like you’re describing are very common—especially in fair skin—and they’re usually triggered or darkened by sun exposure. The key thing to understand: an umbrella helps, but UV rays still reflect from surroundings, so your skin is still getting exposure. –…UV still reaches your skin and keeps stimulating melanin, which = more dark spots. 👉 Sweating is a common concern, but there are lightweight, sweat-resistant sunscreens that won’t feel heavy. –Internal Mahamanjisthadi Kwath – 15 ml + water, BD after meals Khadirarishta – 15 ml + water, BD Gandhak Rasayan – 1 tab BD — External Face pack: Chandan powder + Manjistha powder + Multani Mitti (daily) Night: Kumkumadi Tailam (2–3 drops) —Advice Avoid spicy/oily food Don’t over-exfoliate Use physical sun protection (scarf/umbrella), sunscreen

Namaste, Freckles and dark spots are mainly due to sun exposure and skin sensitivity (pitta involvement). Even if you use an umbrella, UV rays still reach the skin, so spots can continue to develop. They are not harmful, but they don’t go away quickly. With proper care, they can fade and become lighter. ⸻ Most important correction You need some form of sun protection. If regular sunscreen feels uncomfortable due to sweating, try: • A light gel-based or matte sunscreen • Apply small quantity and reapply if needed Umbrella alone is not enough. ⸻ What you can do Apply Kumkumadi oil at night (very little, gentle massage) Use fresh aloe vera gel during the day 2–3 times a week: • Apply paste of besan + a pinch of turmeric + milk/rose water ⸻ Internal support Manjishtadi Kashayam – 15 ml with equal water, twice daily before food Gandhak Rasayan – 1 tablet twice daily after food These help improve skin tone gradually and reduce pigmentation tendency. ⸻ Diet care Avoid: • Excess spicy, fried, and sugary foods Include: • Fruits, vegetables, and adequate hydration ⸻ Important expectation • Freckles don’t disappear completely • They can become lighter and less noticeable over 2–3 months • Consistency is key ⸻ Key point Without sun protection, even the best treatments won’t give lasting results. ⸻ Consultation can help tailor this further to your needs.
