Doctors' responses

Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.

I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.

Melasma is often linked to Pitta imbalance in Ayurveda, which manifests as excess heat and pigmentation in the skin. Since your melasma developed during pregnancy, it suggests a connection to hormonal changes, which can further aggravate Pitta. Your dry skin indicates a Vata imbalance, which can create a lack of moisture and nourishment in the skin, making it more susceptible to pigmentation issues.

The persistence of melasma for 15 years suggests a deep-seated imbalance, possibly involving accumulated ama (toxins) that affect skin health. Ayurveda considers skin issues like melasma as systemic imbalances, not isolated problems. They often relate to internal factors such as digestion, stress, and lifestyle, which can influence Pitta and Vata doshas, leading to pigmentation and dryness.

To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.

Please answer each question as clearly as possible.

1. How would you describe the severity of your melasma? Is it mild, moderate, severe, or very severe? This helps us understand the extent of Pitta imbalance. 2. Have you noticed any specific triggers that worsen your melasma, such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, or stress? Identifying triggers can help manage Pitta aggravation. 3. What is your current skincare routine, especially regarding moisturizing? Dry skin needs special attention to balance Vata. 4. How is your overall skin health besides dryness? Is it well-hydrated, very dry, or do you have other concerns like acne or eczema? 5. Have you used any treatments or products for your melasma before, such as over-the-counter creams, prescription treatments, or natural remedies? Knowing past treatments helps tailor future approaches. 6. How often do you use sunscreen, and what type do you prefer? Sunscreen is crucial for managing Pitta-related skin issues and preventing further pigmentation.

Your detailed responses will help in crafting a personalized Ayurvedic approach to address your melasma effectively.

I completely understand your concern — long-standing melasma (10–15 years) can be frustrating, especially with dry and flaky skin. The good news is: it can definitely be improved and controlled, but it requires consistency and patience In your case, it is chronic melasma, where pigment settles deeper in the skin layers and becomes more stubborn over time. 1)kaishore guggulu – 2 tablets twice daily after meals 2)mahamanjishtadi kwath – 15 ml + 15 ml water, twice daily before meals 3)sarivadyasava – 15 ml + equal water, twice daily after meals These help purify blood, balance pitta, and gradually reduce pigmentation. For External application kumkumadi tailam Apply 4–5 drops at night, gently massage Since your melasma is 10–15 years old: It will not disappear quickly But it can fade naturally and safely over time If you’re looking for proper long-term relief, you can book a consultation and I’ll design a complete plan for you (medicines, routine, and diet)

Aapka case chronic melasma (≈15 saal purana, pregnancy ke baad) hai—isse completely hatana possible hota hai, lekin time + consistency bahut important hoti hai. Kitne time me theek hoga? Initial improvement: 4–6 weeks Visible lightening: 2–3 months Stable results: 4–6 months (regular follow-up ke saath) Kyunki ye purana hai, isliye slow but steady approach best rahega. Aapke case ka root cause (simple samajh) Pregnancy ke baad hormonal + pitta–rakta dushti Dry skin → vata involvement Long duration → deep pigmentation Aur ek important factor Kya aapko gussa (anger), stress, ya overthinking zyada hoti hai? Yeh directly melasma ko worsen karta hai. 1. Internal treatment Manjishthadi Kwath 15–20 ml + equal paani, din me 2 baar (khane ke baad) Kaam: Rakta shodhan (blood purification) Pigmentation reduce 2. External treatment Kumkumadi tailam Raat ko sone se pehle 3–4 drops Gentle massage (2–3 min) Overnight leave Ye complexion improve karta hai + pigmentation lighten karta hai Face pack (week me 3 baar) Masoor dal powder Yashtimadhu (mulethi) Chandan Milk (dry skin ke liye best) Paste banake 10–15 min lagayein, phir halka sa wash Ye: Mild exfoliation Brightening Pitta calming karta hai 3. Sunscreen (very very important) Aap abhi sunscreen use nahi karti—ye melasma ka sabse bada reason hai worsening ka. Sunscreen kya use karein (dry skin ke liye): La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk Sunscreen SPF 60 Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion SPF 50 Cetaphil Bright Healthy Radiance SPF 30 Day Cream Kaise use karein: Subah daily (ghar me bhi) 2–3 ghante me reapply (agar bahar ho) Without sunscreen, koi bhi treatment kaam nahi karega. 4. Diet & digestion (agni ka role bahut important hai) Avoid karein: Dahi (especially raat me) Achar Papad Bahut zyada spicy / oily / fried food Excess tea/coffee Ye sab pitta badhate hain → pigmentation worsen Include karein: Amla Guduchi Lauki, tori, karela (light food) Warm water Digestion theek hoga to skin automatically improve hogi 5. Mind–skin connection (ignore mat karein) Agar: Stress Gussa Overthinking hai → melasma stubborn ho jata hai Simple routine: 10 min anulom vilom 5–10 min meditation Proper sleep Final reality check Ye 15 saal purana hai → jaldi result expect na karein Lekin agar aap: Sunscreen daily Internal medicine Face care Diet control follow karti hain → gradual but long-lasting improvement milega

Melasma can develop due to multiple underlying reasons. In many cases, conditions like piles, fissures, post-pregnancy changes, or urinary bladder imbalances play a role. As per Ayurveda, this is often associated with Apaan Vayu dushti and Shukra dhatu imbalance, which affect hormonal and metabolic functions in the body. In some individuals, melasma may also appear as a primary skin discoloration without obvious external triggers. Based on your concern, I am recommending a few medicines that can help manage the condition. However, it’s important to understand that the root cause varies from person to person, and treatment works best when it is customized according to your body constitution (Prakriti) and dosha imbalance. For long-term and visible results, I would strongly suggest booking a consultation so I can evaluate your condition in detail and guide you with a personalized treatment plan. Kameshwar modak local application Kaishor guggulu 1 tds Abhyarisht 1 tsf with water after meals Kumkumadi oil apply twice a day

Namaste, Aapka melasma pregnancy ke baad develop hua hai aur 15 saal purana hai, iska matlab hai ki yeh deep-seated pigmentation hai jisme pitta imbalance aur skin sensitivity dono involved hote hain. Isme patience bahut zaroori hai, kyunki itna purana melasma completely hatna mushkil hota hai, lekin proper care se kaafi lighten aur control kiya ja sakta hai. Sabse important cheez hai sun protection. Agar sunscreen regular use nahi kiya, toh koi bhi treatment long term kaam nahi karega. Aap daily morning mein sunscreen zaroor lagayein, even ghar ke andar bhi. Dry skin ke liye moisturizing sunscreen better rahega. Aap SPF 50 wala broad spectrum sunscreen le sakti hain, jaise La Shield SPF 50 Gel (agar sweating zyada hoti hai) ya koi cream-based sunscreen jo dry skin ke liye ho. Har 3–4 ghante mein reapply karna important hai, especially agar dhoop mein ja rahi hain. Avoid karein direct sunlight, heat exposure, aur baar-baar face par harsh products use karna. Excess scrubbing ya chemical products melasma ko aur dark kar sakte hain. Simple home care: Raat ko sone se pehle aloe vera gel halka sa laga sakti hain. Hafte mein 2–3 baar dudh + chandan powder ka mild pack laga sakti hain (10–15 min), yeh skin ko soothe karta hai. Kachha doodh cotton se gently apply karna bhi dryness aur pigmentation mein support karta hai. Diet mein pitta control zaroori hai – spicy, fried, junk food, excess tea/coffee kam karein. Include karein – amla, coconut water, cucumber, green vegetables. Proper hydration maintain karein. Ayurvedic medicines with dose and timing: Amla Churna – 1 teaspoon subah empty stomach Manjistha Churna – 1 teaspoon din mein ek baar Khadirarishta – 2 teaspoon paani ke saath, din mein 2 baar after food Yeh medicines blood purification aur skin pigmentation ko gradually reduce karne mein madad karti hain. Aapko 4–6 weeks mein halka difference dikhna start ho sakta hai, lekin noticeable improvement ke liye 3–4 months consistency zaroori hai. Melasma mein recurrence common hota hai, isliye sunscreen aur diet control long term follow karna bahut important hai.

1.Kaishore guggulu 2 tab twice daily after meals with water 2.Manjistha churna 1/2 tsp twice daily with honey after meals 3.Sarivadyasava 20 ml with 20 ml water twice daily after meals 4.Kumkumadi taila- massage with 2-3 drops of oil at bedtime and leave it overnight Sunscreen for Dry Skin— Since melasma worsens with sun exposure, sunscreen is essential: - Use a broad‑spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen (cream‑based, hydrating, not gel). - Ayurvedic option: Aloe vera + sandalwood paste as a natural sun shield (short duration protection). - Modern option: Moisturizing sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide for dry skin. Diet & Lifestyle---- - Avoid spicy, oily, fried foods (increase Pitta). - Include cucumber, watermelon, leafy greens, amla. - Drink 2–3 liters of water daily. - Practice sheetali pranayama (cooling breath) for Pitta balance. - Always wear sunscreen and avoid direct sun between 10 am–4 pm.
